  1. Australia need 56 to win - how did we get here?published at 07:40 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2017

Hello to those of us just joining us - it's not pretty from an England perspective I'm afraid.

They resumed on 33-2, a lead of just seven, and actually started well, with Mark Stoneman and Joe Root accumulating nicely.

Nathan Lyon removed Stoneman and Dawid Malan quickly with some lovely bowling to the left-handers but Root remained and moved to 50.

Only next ball, Root was out lbw to Josh Hazlewood.

Moeen Ali was still there and playing well, before he was given out stumped by Tim Paine off Lyon. Plenty of controversy here - was Moeen's foot on the line or was a bit behind it? More reaction to this soon.

Jonny Bairstow then fell into a short-ball trap and Australia ripped through the tail, leaving them 170 to win.

David Warner and Cameron Bancroft came out playing well and England soon lost their wa, the tourists now on the cusp of a crushing defeat.

David Warner ends unbeaten on 60, with Cameron Bancroft having brought up his maiden Test fifty in ending 51 not out.

England were already rocking but this pair have knocked them out cold on the canvas.

A thoroughly dispiriting final session for the tourists there.

How did it come to this? Stay tuned - we'll bring you plenty of recaps and reaction here...

Anderson then goes short at Warner, who rocks it off his hips for a single, before Bancroft does the same.

Warner showing deft touch even late in the day, guiding it away fine to add another to his tally.

Last ball of the day - Anderson to Bancroft, who calmly bats it back.

And that's that. We will be back for day five. And it will be to witness Australia win this first Test at a canter.

  5. Aus 111-0published at 33.1 overs

Hahaha, oh my word. Anderson's first ball to Warner has slipped out of his hand and looped very high and very wide through to Bairstow.

No ball. Scenes. A wry smile from Anderson as he trudges back to his mark.

So technically just one over remaining in the day. Australia need 60 to win.

Don't reckon that'll convince the umpires to grant the extra half hour.

Anderson to Warner, just after that altercation - stand by for some fun...

Broad gets one past Warner's bat and onto the pads - Broad appeals (of course) but it's going way down leg.

What's this? Umpire Erasmus has to step in as Anderson sends some verbals Warner's way.

Jimmy raging against the dying of the light. At least it's something.

And that's another thing! Broad producing a rare beauty that rips past the outside edge of Bancroft's bat. No nick though and the opener leaves the last well alone.

I'm starting to think Craig Overton. Or starting to think three seamers. Are we going to think about drastically changing our plans?

    Aus 109-0

Warner works Anderson away to deep square leg for one.

Ragged from Anderson as he chucks it down leg and Bancroft easily guides it away fine for four and a maiden Test fifty.

Solid stuff from the debutant. He showed some resilience after a nervy start and has looked increasingly fluent since.

Broad finds a touch of extra bounce off a length but Warner dabs it away before pushing into off and picking up a single.

Bancroft calmly defends a couple before Broad finds the outside edge - but it flies through a gulf in the slips and the opener scurries a couple.

Sigh. There may be talk of England 'taking positives' from this game but this is a truly dispiriting ending.

We've watched, for three and a half days, a really taut, brilliant contest. And yet the scorebook will say Australia won really comfortably by 10 wickets. But it won't have been comfortable. England will know what they need to work on.

So four overs remaining at least in the day, but if the umpires feel a result can be reached, they can extend the day by another eight overs (that hasn't been confirmed yet, despite an earlier tweet).

Can Australia make the 69 required in 12 overs - that's 5.75 runs per over. David Warner is out there...

Anderson offers a reminder of his prodigious skill with six lovely dot balls.

But Bancroft is set and fends them all off.

Joe Root continues instead of Moeen Ali as Cameron Bancroft clips off his legs to scramble a couple.

That brings up 100 for Australia and a very comfortable century stand for this opening pair.

A single to finish the over.

It looks like England have resigned themselves that the game has gone. You have to fight to the last ball and show intent. It's just a little too easy at the moment.

Cricket Australia have announced that entry to day five at the Gabba will be by gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to Movember Australia.

That means spectators just have to donate a $1 or $2 coin to get in. How many runs will be left for them to see?

Jake Ball might be bowling himself out of contention for the second Test.

Er, is David Warner trying to finish this on day four?

The Aussie opener executes one of his trademark scything cut shots to dismiss Ball to the fence and bring up a fine half century.

Regardless of this match, not ideal to permit Warner this kind of knock ahead of the rest of the series...
