  1. Aus 20-0published at 10 overs

    Warner 7, Bancroft 12

Moeen fields a delivery and then takes a long look at his finger, before nodding towards Joe Root. He had a cut on his index finger on his right hand, but England said earlier that he was fine to bowl. Another good drop and run from Bancroft allows Australia to hustle another single, before Warner plays a near-identical shot to the one that got him out. The ball rolls along the ground, though, and Warner opts not to run. A bouncer comes down from Broad - a not particularly well directed one - and Warner ducks it, before Broad pleads for an lbw from a slower ball. Too leggy, I reckon.

It won't be a surprise to many, but Virat Kohli has scored another century for India who are grinding Sri Lanka into the Nagpur dirt in the second Test. The skipper's ton came off just 136 balls. Follow that match via our scorecard here.

  3. Aus 17-0published at 9 overs

    Target 170

David Warner goes after Anderson's first ball yet again, aiming a cover drive that Dawid Malan springs to cut off. He tries it again, and this time nicks a single as Malan takes the pace off the ball. Warner has scored seven from the 18 deliveries he's faced so far. Root's meticulously-placed field is doing its job on him. Bancroft digs out a yorker and scampers through for the single. Moeen, meanwhile, is wheeling his arms around to loosen up.

If you're Broad or Anderson, you'd fancy knocking Bancroft over.

Geoffrey Boycott: He looks slightly out of his depth.

Stuart Broad and Joe Root are having a tremendously loud, tremendously obvious conversation about where Broad is going to bowl to David Warner. They're trying to sucker him into going after a short ball, but what he actually gets is a middling delivery that he can clip away easily for a single. Don't go into acting, chaps. Oh, that's lovely from Broad, getting another delivery to seam past Bancroft's outside edge.

Robbie Alexander: 100 runs short of a total that our bowlers could have a real go at. The difference this Test is Steve Smith’s 1st innings ton. If Broad and Anderson can rip through a couple of the top order the doubt might set in.

Paul Beard: So, so, so poor, England. Australia did not bowl well enough for that.

  7. Aus 14-0published at 7 overs

David Warner goes for his first big shot, one of those crunching drives, but there's a fielder in place to cut it off, and it's just a single. Anderson goes for the wobble seam delivery, getting the ball to nip back into Cameron Bancroft, but it's too high. Bancroft's box is doing some good work today. Ah, now there's a proper appeal from Anderson, feet pedalling backwards as the ball nips back in yet again, but that's struck Bancroft high on the pad. Umpire Erasmus, an inscrutable fellow, shakes his head.

Australia have been bowled out chasing scores of 170 or less nine times in Test history. Six times it has been against England.

The most recent one was against India in Mumbai in 2004, where they were bowled for 93, chasing 107.

The time before that was when Phil Tufnell bowled them out in 1997, with Australia all out for 104, chasing 124.

    Warner 4, Bancroft 9

I really don't think that getting into a slanging match with a pumped up David Warner is a good idea for England. Broad opts to let the ball do the talking by getting the ball to move into him yet again and striking him on the pad, but a healthy inside edge stops Broad's appeal. Warner works a single away before Bancroft whacks a drive to a fielder. I like Bancroft a lot. He's got no time for anything other than batting. He walks to short leg after every delivery to just compose himself, and get away from any chirpy fielders.

The Barmies really are doing all they can to help England find something. They haven't stopped singing since England took the field. It feels like all the visiting supporters, right around the ground, have joined in. Who's at home again?

That's a boundary for Cameron Bancroft, but he wasn't in total control of it. He pushed at Anderson, who is targeting that fourth stump line, and the ball went off the edge of the bat and away to the boundary. Anderson then fields in his follow through, throws the ball at the stumps, and cracks Bancroft right above the box. Anderson apologises straight away. Bancroft, to his credit, didn't move an inch. Not a flicker.

  13. Aus 8-0published at 4 overs

There's an England fan in the crowd with a koala strapped to his chest in a baby carrier. There's a perfectly ordinary sentence.

Ooft! That's a stunner of a delivery from Broad, angling the ball into Warner, who is planted on the back foot, and the ball just beats the outside edge. Warner is batting out of his crease, looking confident as he plonks a few balls here and there, before chipping a delivery back to Broad. Maiden.

David Warner is a fidgeter. He meddles with his gloves after every delivery. A drop and run off his hip brings another single, before he has a chirp at Anderson as the bowler strolls back to his mark. Anderson responds with an absolute beauty that beats Bancroft's push forwards, a shot that's very similar to his dismissal in the first innings. Bancroft, wisely, leaves the final ball. The worst thing for England here, whatever happens, is that they're going to leave Brisbane, knowing they had chances to get properly on top of this match.

You can't just let David Warner drop and run like this. It gives him momentum and annoys the bowler. You want him to have a flash at one on the drive and maybe nick it.

  17. Aus 7-0published at 2 overs

    Target 170

A smart single to the first ball of the over gets Australia's run chase going, as Warner plays a forward defensive and hares down the wicket. Moeen dives at cover to stop a Bancroft drive racing to the boundary, before Warner takes another sharp single. And that's the first boundary of the over as Broad strays onto the pads, and Bancroft tucks it away for a boundary. Hmm...

A friendly array of boos for Stuart Broad, who I reckon is still smarting about being given out on review. He was sure he'd not hit it. He rearranges his field while Warner adjusts his gloves. I wonder what sort of mood he's in today...

Century and four catches in an innings as a fielder for Australia in Tests:

    • B Simpson 201 & 4 ct v WI, Bridgetown, 1965
    • M Hayden 130 & 4 ct v SL, Galle, 2004
    • S Smith 141* & 4 ct v Eng, Brisbane, 2017

Oh! Anderson gets one to snake past Bancroft's outside edge, and the Australia opener wanders away to have a bit of thinking time. There's some definite away movement for Anderson as Bairstow moves to his right to collect the ball. Bancroft plays inside the line again to the final ball of the over, and Anderson gives him a filthy stare in response. Maiden.
