If you're planning on getting up early for day three, don't forget it's starting at 03:00 BST tomorrow and on Tuesday because of the rain interruptions.

In the meantime, we'll have Jonathan Agnew's column and the Pint-sized Ashes.

That's it from me so enjoy your day.

More from England coach Trevor Bayliss: "It’s a big day tomorrow and, hopefully, we can bat big.

"The players are confident, there’s a good feeling in the dressing room. Shaun Marsh showed it’s possible to score runs out there.

"A lot of their batters made starts and there’s a long time left in the game. It’s up to one or two guys to go out there and make a big score, not just a 40 or 50."

I think Test match cricket has to have a look at itself. T20 cricket and other formats you get out there and play. I didn't think it was that bad. England players will be delighted they didn't have to face those overs tonight. Mitchell Starc was bowling quickly and Josh Hazelwood was bowling the kind of length England should have bowled.

England were scheduled to negotiate 28 overs in the night session but that was ended after 9.1 overs because of rain.

However, despite looking in good knick, the tourists lost Mark Stoneman for 18 afetr he started off brightly.

He'd hit a couple of fours in the 21 balls he faced before being trapped lbw by Mitchell Starc. he reviewed but DRS showed the ball was hitting leg stump.

England will resume on day three on 29-1.

England require a bit of pace. Mark Wood looks like he will be added for Perth. When you have four seamers you have one luxury bowler and that used to be Ben Stokes.

I don't think England have replaced Ben Stokes as the bowler. It is too samey samey. If the ball is hooping around then it is fine but it doesn't in Australian conditons.

Moeen is having no effect. He is putting nothing on the ball and is not going to create any kind of panic.

  8. 'It wasn't an easy decision'published at 12:32 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

More from England coach Trevor Bayliss, on whether Joe Root was right to bowl first after winning the toss: "I'm very happy with his decision.

"One of our challenges is taking wickets on flatter wickets and Joe wanted to give our guys the chance to take 20 wickets.

"It wasn’t an easy decision or one we took lightly and Joe thought our best opportunity was to bowl first on a fresh wicket. We bowled well and didn’t get the rewards we thought we deserved."

  9. 'I wasn't sure I'd be back'published at 12:28 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

Australia batsman Shaun Marsh: "There's a lot of relief there. I'm just really happy.

"I haven't thought about all the incidental noise (criticism) and my selection for the team.

"I've just tried to come in and feel nice and relaxed. I've felt good about my game the last three or four months.

"Six months ago I wasn't sure whether I'd be back here. I'd always dreamt of getting back in."

Shaun Marsh scored his fifth Test century and first against England. It was a lovely innings. He played very well yesterday and just carried that on.

  11. Marsh finishes with a flourishpublished at 12:15 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

There were some in Australia who were baffled by Shaun Marsh's ninth recall but they might be keeping quiet for the time being.

He made 51 in the first Test and his 126 not out this time around helped put the Aussies massively on top.

Marsh was dogged for most of his innings but smashed two fours and a six off a Stuart Broad over just before the hosts declared on 442-8.

  16. Fortune not favouring Englandpublished at 11:55 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

England's bowling was better on day two as they pitched the ball up a bit more but they were just not getting the rub of the green.

A couple of edges didn't carry to the slips and the less said about DRS the better.

Shaun Marsh and Tim Paine were both given out lbw off James Anderson with what looked like good decisions.

But both batsman reviewed and the decisions were overturned as the ball was deemed to be going over the stumps. Harsh.

  18. Boon, Boonpublished at 11:46 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

Cummins took 37 balls to trouble the scorers, which was the slowest an Australian has taken to get off the mark since batsman David Boon in 1991.

Boon, of course, has one of the great moustache's in the history of cricket and it is still going strong.

(The award he's got isn't for his moustache - I don't think so anyway!!)

  19. Cummins continues to make England toilpublished at 11:41 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

If England thought they might be able to whizz through the Australian tail after Mitchell Starc went for six after being caught by James Anderson off Stuart Broad, then Pat Cummins had other ideas.

Cummins scored 44 and put on 99 with Shaun Marsh before being caught by Dawid Malan off Craig Overton.

John Wallace-Howell: There may not be that big a gap on paper but Australia have shown the ability to get the wicket/partnership/century they need to get into a winning position. England do enough to compete but in 7 days they haven't been able to get any clear advantages.
