    Glenn McGrath
Ex-Australia pace bowler on BBC Test Match Special

Of all the English batsman that have fallen today, I think they all played a decent part in their own demise. They've been caught in between being positive on a pitch that still has some sideways movement, and which balls to play at.

Glenn McGrath has escaped the lift and is already piling into the England batsmen on TMS...

    Lyon 17-3-41-2

Nathan Lyon continues to look like Murali in this series and the crowd are right in the game, yelping in unison as Chris Woakes inside edges one onto the pads. Woakes gets away with it as the ball lands just out of the reach of Cameron Bancroft at short leg but this looks so tough for him.

Israr Hussain: I was in a lift with Glenn after the 1999 One Day Final at Lords. He laughed at me for being a Pakistan fan. This is payback!

  5. Eng 137-6published at 50 overs

    Bairstow 18, Woakes 5

The pitch suddenly looks a bit quicker now Chris Woakes is at the crease as Mitchell Starc whistles a bouncer past his grill. Steve Smith likes what he sees and puts a second fielder close in under the helmet awaiting the catch. Unsurprisingly Starc goes short again and Woakes knows he can't just fend the ball away. He pulls hard and absolutely nails the ball to the rope.

That sensational grab brings Chris Woakes to the crease. He has been all at sea against Nathan Lyon's off-spin so far in this series. He tentatively prods forward to get off the mark with a single.

The Nathan Lyon catch is being played over and over again and the crowd 'ahhhhhh' in amazement. So, so good.

That is a quite brilliant catch. The crowd have just roared after seeing the replay. Nathan Lyon is firm favourite. He's got cult hero status.

(And for those of you wondering, Glenn McGrath has been rescued from the lift)

    Moeen c&b Lyon 25 (Eng 132-6)

    What a catch!

A brilliant, brilliant piece of fielding from Nathan Lyon. Moeen Ali foolishly tries to work a ball through mid wicket against the spin and ends up chipping the ball back down the pitch. Moeen perhaps thinks he'll get away with it but Lyon dives full length to his left and plucks the ball out of the air with his left hand.

Glenn McGrath is stuck in a lift. How many 90s English batsman are sat at home wishing that could have happened during a Test match? Also, how big is that lift?

Mitchell Starc is going to start at the other end for Australia and is bowling round the wicket with his left-arm fast. All of the deliveries are nice and full and comfortably outside off stump. Bairstow isn't really tempted resulting in a maiden.

Glenn McGrath should be sat alongside me right now, but instead, he's just sent me a text saying that he and 50 people are stuck in a lift and have been for 30 minutes, and they're not sure when they're getting out. How many cricketers have been stuck in this lift?

  12. Eng 130-5published at 47 overs

    Moeen 23, Bairstow 18

It's Nathan Lyon to start after tea in the afternoon sunshine in Adelaide. Moeen takes a single on the first ball and then shouts of "yes, Gary" from behind the stumps tell you Lyon is on the money to Bairstow next up. England's ginger wicketkeeper-batsman looks to take the attack to the spinner but fails to time his sweep shot before taking a single with a careful nudge a ball later.

Just to cheer you up everyone...

  14. Eng 128-5published at 46 overs

The players are heading back out to the middle. Can Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali bat this entire session and at least get England the follow-on mark?

Ex-Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie, speaking to TMS: "Nathan Lyon has been able to be a two-in-one, attack and contain. He's been absolutely fantastic and complimented the big hairy quicks.

"There's been a point of difference with the Australian attack. Mitchell Starc bowls full, Josh Hazlewood bowls accurately and Pat Cummins brings the x-factor.

"The English bowlers are very similar to each other. There's no point of difference.

"When you win the toss and bowl, you inadvertently put pressure on the bowlers. They search for it a little bit, instead of just focusing on what they need to do. But if the bowlers had bowled better, it would have been labelled a masterstroke."

Here's the dismal England batting performance in picture form. I reckon Joe Root's shot, a big drive on his 10th ball, was probably the worst but it is close between him and James Vince.

Alastair Cook could have left his delivery from Nathan Lyon and only Dawid Malan can really say he got a good ball.

There's an air of resignation nation in the press box. "Doomed" is ex-pro's comment that can be printed, another's was expletive-laden. On the plus side, the pies and sausage rolls are excellent.

Steve Bradley: England look resigned to losing 5-0 again. Heads must roll. Australia aren’t even a great side!

Brett Acton: Looks like the Ashes are already lost. These guys don't know the difference between Test Cricket and T20.

Jack Mendel: I'm up, and England are 112-5, 330 behind. It's worrying, but I actually expected worse than that.....
