  1. Aus 35-1published at 15 overs

Anderson is carrying on, but he lets out a grunt of frustration as he goes for the big inswinger and ends up pushing it too far across Warner. There's still some movement there from Anderson as he gets a delivery to move back in to Warner and stop him freeing his arms. It's another good over, albeit it's still too short from Anderson, and Warner satisfies himself with a little flick down the leg side for a single.

Liam Plunkett bowls at 88mph or 90mph but he is not Starc and Cummins. Josh Hazlewood was 83mph or 84mph when he first came in and now he is bowling 88mph regularly. Why is that?

  3. Aus 34-1published at 14 overs

That's, er, a loosener from Chris Woakes first up. It's short and wide and Woakes is lucky that Khawaja slaps it straight to a fielder. Woakes keeps going back of a length and he gets one to rise over Khawaja's stumps, before another delivery bounces up into his midriff. Woakes strays down the leg side once again, and Khawaja helps it away for an easy single. Not the best over from Woakes there.

I wonder if Craig Overton is about to change ends. Chris Woakes is replacing him after one over.

Meanwhile, under the scoreboard, someone has just necked a beer out of their shoe.

  6. Aus 32-1published at 13 overs

    Warner 9, Khawaja 17

Alison Mitchell is currently up on the roof of one of the stands. She's got an almighty view. James Anderson is continuing but he looks to be tiring. David Warner ignores a shorter delivery and lets the slightly fuller stuff come gently on to the bat. It's a maiden for Anderson yet again.

Why don't England produce more out-and-out fast bowlers? Is it that you get a longer career by bowling within yourself and with more control? I guess if you're not whacking that leg down with full ferocity, you're not going to do get the same amount of injuries.

Craig Overton finds the outside edge almost straight away as Usman Khawaja goes to drive, but soft hands yet again guides the ball through the slips and away for four. Overton goes short and Khawaja rides the bounce, before another short delivery is absolutely thumped square of the wicket for four! Khawaja does have an almighty pull shot in his locker. It was chest high from Overton, and Khawaja cashed in, watching it all the way.

Ooh, a change. England's top scorer and dismisser of Steve Smith, Craig Overton, is on.

  11. Aus 24-1published at 11 overs

There's a definite noise as Usman Khawaja gets crossed over by Jamse Anderson, but it's bat flicking pad, rather than the ball, and Anderson shakes his head. Khawaja hustles a single before Warner tickles a leggy delivery away for a boundary. That's a bit too straight from Anderson and Warner just had to turn his wrists and get a bit of something on it.

  13. Aus 18-1published at 10 overs

Too straight from Broad, and Warner flicks it up and away for a couple. Moeen goes lolloping after it and cuts it off before it gets to the boundary. That's a fine work of the wrists from Warner, although Moeen, lurking at mid-on, was briefly interested. Warner has made five runs from 26 balls so far. Khawaja keeps a full ball off his toes, before Broad beats him with a beauty. Full, swinging away, and Khawaja's feet don't move an inch.

If you're getting too many play and misses, you're probably bowling a little bit short.

  15. Aus 15-1published at 9 overs

    Lead by 230

Another leading edge from Khawaja, pushing forward yet again, but it's with soft hands once again and James Vince dives at gully to cut it off. Anderson's annoyed with himself as he trails down leg, and he responds with a better delivery that shapes in as t goes past Khawaja's stumps. A look at the pitch map shows he's still bowling too short, though.

  17. Aus 15-1published at 8 overs

    Warner 2, Khawaja 7

Runs for Usman Khawaja, as Broad drops short and Khawaja can flick him off his hip for a couple. Another single brings David Warner back on strike, which encourages Broad to furiously shine the ball, and Warner responds with an almighty play and miss outside off stump. He's going for that big drive yet again, Broad pushing the ball wide across him, before Warner leaves another delivery that goes through to Bairstow at shoulder height.

Piers Mitchell: Joe Root really is not captaincy material, his reviews are shocking and he doesn’t know how to rotate his bowlers. Problem is this England team just doesn’t have any leaders in it.

  19. Aus 12-1published at 7 overs

    Anderson 4-3-4-1

There's a half-hearted appeal from Anderson as he strikes Warner with a full delivery, but Warner had shuffled onto leg stump and that was going down. It does make you wonder why they didn't bowl like this on the first day. Anderson drags his length back slightly and Warner can't resist a nibble, before another lovely delivery seams and slides past the outside edge. Three maidens in a row for Anderson.

Broad is looking like he's been burgled. Warner has a big smile on his face.

England have bowled some lovely deliveries, but they only have one wicket to show for it.
