England need a further 24 runs to avoid the follow-on, and you'd imagine they've got eight overs to properly get them before the new ball comes into play.

That's me done for a bit. Amy Lofthouse will take you through the final session.

This is truly awful. Can you imagine what it would be like if Australia were really, really good?

Worst start to a series in living memory for me, the 90’s were never this bad!

We have witnessed two outstanding Australia catches today - first from Nathan Lyon and then Mitchell Starc, both off their own bowling...

Sadly the epic Ashes comeback and 3-2 win for England, culminating at Sydney in January, will come too late for them to take ‘Team of Year’ award at BBC Sports Personality of the Year in a week or so.

For the good of Test cricket it’s time we considered two divisions. We want to watch competitive cricket.

Sometimes, you get bowled out by good bowling. We played at balls that were wide - just naive things. I just don't think we've assessed it like they did.

I can only hope we’re in the middle of a Hollywood blockbuster. 2-0 down, Ben Stokes flies in from NZ and pummels the Aussies at Perth. They panic and, Brearley-esque leadership from Root leads us to an improbable 3-2 win. Domnhall Gleeson plays Stokes, Daniel Radcliffe Joe Root. Brilliant...

A horror of a day for England.

They resumed on 29-1 this morning. They have taken tea at 219-8.

England lost four wickets before tea and and a further three before dinner, with all the batsmen deserving of blame for the strokes they played.

James Vince, caught behind forcing off the back foot in the second over of the day, and Joe Root, who edged a drive to third slip, were perhaps the most culpable.

Brilliant return catches from Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc accounted for Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow respectively, although they too played poor strokes.

It was left to Chris Woakes, with 36, and number nine Craig Overton, who is unbeaten on 36, to show their supposedly better colleagues how it should be done.

England are 219-8 at dinner, within 24 runs of avoiding the follow-on.

Just a reminder that this is the 40-minute 'dinner' interval. It has been a pretty shoddy day for England but that 66-run partnership will make the food go down a little better at least.
