Ooh, an outside edge from Steve Smith goes clattering towards the slips, but it's all along the ground and Joe Root sprawls on top of the ball. Smith nabs a single in the process.

Oh! That's a chance! Root's let a chance go begging! Usman Khawaja is tempted into a flirt at a Woakes delivery, gets a thick edge on it and flies towards Root, who doesn't seem to pick it up. The ball is past his shoulder before he's even had time to stick a hand out. Dearie me.

A double change for England. Chris Woakes is on for a blast.

The physio has been out with a bit of tape for James Anderson's hand, which is not ideal.

A bit of extra bounce surprises Usman Khawaja, who flinches his face out of the way and drops his hands down. He stays deep in his crease and is more than happy to prod and pat his way through the over. Too easy.

  5. What have you missed?published at 08:01 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2017

Another cracker of a day so far.

England were bowled out for 403, which looks a perfectly reasonable total until you consider that they resumed on 305-4, and were 368-4 with centurions Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow at the crease.

But Malan fell for 140 to spark a collapse of six wickets for 35 runs as England were bowled out for 403. Bairstow, for his part, fell for 119 and the tail did what the tail has done for much of this series: very little.

Craig Overton gave England early hope by removing David Warner and Cameron Bancroft before they truly got going, but Steve Smith has rattled along at almost a run a ball alongside Usman Khawaja to take Australia into three figures without further loss.

Ta, Tom. James Anderson is going to come on. He's only bowled four overs today, which seems odd to me.

Comfy in the members' area, though if you want to watch from a sofa you can probably stay at home. And why hasn't Jimmy Anderson bowled straight after tea?

News reaches me that the stricken sleeper train is on the move, good news indeed.

Australia are on the move, Steve Smith looks solid as a rock, clipping Broad away for four with style. The middle of his bat looks massive at the moment.

Four more! Unorthodox shot, looked off balance but jabs it to the mid-wicket fence anyway

Get Craig Overton on! Everyone else in the England attack has been flat as anything.

Stuart Broad continues at the other end for England as his mate James Anderson fields well at mid on to save another four from the dashing blade of Steve Smith.

The barmy army have had a good tea, they are in fine voice now.

A bit of turn for Moeen Ali and Usman Khawaja streaks an edge wide of slip for four.

This partnership is proving to be a real pain for England. Moeen then finds a flat, fast one and is close to finding an edge!

Steve Smith gets his big plate out and waits his turn at the Stuart Broad buffet. Yes please, four square through the off side as the bowler drops well short and wide.

England have shipped some runs since tea - 22 in fact in no time at all.

Mooen Ali has caused no moment of worry at all in his spell so far. He's not getting any turn or bounce. The boys in the TMS box reckon he's changed his action.

Has anybody already pointed out that Overton’s surname is made of two bits of cricket terminology, and C Overton is made of three?
