England haven't taken the new ball.

    Err...

  4. Aus 265-4published at 80 overs

    Smith 127, M Marsh 6

Craig Overton digs in, he's bowled well again this morning. He gets a lot out of the pitch - comparatively anyway.

Don't bowl there though! Leg-side filth and Mitch Marsh helps himself to four.

    Here comes the new ball.

James Anderson has taken six wickets in three Test matches at Waca so far. He currently has a bowling average of 55.33 on the ground.

  6. Aus 260-4published at 79 overs

    Smith 126, M Marsh 2

James Anderson goes around the wicket and rolls six balls into the hips of Steve Smith. He just places them back at the bowler's feet like an obediant labrador.

He then picks up a single off the last ball of the over.

AFCSTU: The longer @stevesmith49, external stays in, the quicker the finish will come. At this rate will be 3-0 by teatime Sunday. Joe Root is the Arsene Wenger of cricket, tactically clueless.

James Anderson is on! Have England miscounted? The new ball is due in two overs' time. Maybe Anderson is going to conjure up some reverse swing...

Weird old shot from Mitch Marsh, a defensive push to Craig Overton which turns into a chip over the top. He was early on it I reckon, A cry of catch goes up but it lands safe.

His technique has Boycott in knots. Furious.

This is deja vu from 12 months ago for England. Remember Virat? He scored 655 runs in the Test series that India won 4-0.

My love of the Waca grows when you discover you can do pretty much an entire lap without missing any cricket. Out of the media centre, right, past the dressing rooms and then the old scoreboard. Behind the first grass bank, then across a metal bridge and across the front of the Prindiville Stand.

Some black screens are unhelpfully placed behind the lower seats there, but then you're on to the second grass bank on the way to the rickety members' stand. Through the bar and you're back where you started.

  17. Aus 256-4published at 77 overs

    Smith 123, M Marsh 1

Steve Smith is still rotating that shoulder after getting whacked by a Craig Overton bouncer, he works a single and gets off strike. Mitch Marsh is a touch edgy, but he is off the mark now too.

Mitch had a shoulder reconstruction earlier this year apparently. Ouch doesn't really cover that.

  18. Aus 253-4published at 76 overs

If Australia want to make a game of this they should respect the rules of the collapse. England lost 6/35 in 51 balls yesterday at about this time.

That would give England a lead of 115. What's the fuss?

    Glenn McGrath
Ex-Australia pace bowler on BBC Test Match Special

Always, in the back of your mind, no matter what the pitch was like, you tried to adapt to it and used what work. If it's flat, then keep it tight - work in the ball, maybe get some reverse swing.

It's about assessing and adapting to the conditions as quickly as possible. The only thing the bowler can control is where he wants to bowl the ball. Build up that pressure. Always think that one ball is all it takes to get a wicket.
