    Malan 38, Moeen 5

David Warner's looking properly unimpressed with himself. We've seen that run out attempt from a few angles now, and Moeen's nowhere near the crease in any of them. I think he just rushed his throw.

Dearie me, this is good from Pat Cummins. The ball whizzes back in to Dawid Malan, twice rising on him and striking him in the midriff, but Malan raises his arms and keeps his bat out of the way. Cummins is hitting those cracks that are right on Malan's off stump, and he's getting some real movement back in. Maiden.

I have been nothing but impressed by Dawid Malan. His hundred in the first innings was superb and he looks in good touch again.

England won't be thinking about getting ahead of Australia, I can tell you that. It is all about batting time.

Never take on David Warner in the field. He's essentially like a puppy. Plenty of energy and he'll chase after the ball for as long as possible.

Dawid Malan takes on the short ball, pulling for a single, before Moeen sees out the over. He's increased his shouts of "no run" by a few decibels.

Pick your fielders to run to! David Warner is not one of them.

Moeen Ali was 8ft short of his ground, that is awful running. It was a great throw.

  5. Eng 149-5published at 43.2 overs

Close to a run-out! Moeen drives into the off side, runs, picks out David Warner and oh, Moeen would have been out by a mile. He's not even in the frame as Warner throws the ball.

Warner's foot just seemed to slip behind him as he shied at the stumps. That ball didn't miss by much, just bouncing past the furthest stump as Moeen drags his bat over.

An series of short stuff comes Moeen's way and he does well, ducking when he needs to and playing with soft hands to play the ball down.

He gets in behind the final delivery as a huge cloud passes over the Waca.

Mitch Marsh's face at first slip was a delight. Mouth literally hanging open.

That ball from Hazlewood just hit a crack, not one of the damper patches on the pitch. It came so quickly off the pitch, too, absolutely whizzing towards the slip. Umpire Erasmus watched the replay very, very closely on the big screen.

Moeen, wisely, jogged a bye, before Malan gets a tickle on a leg side delivery that goes for four.

Woah! That's.... wow! Josh Hazlewood's first delivery hits a crack and absolutely flies off the pitch. Think Harmison in 2006. It's flown almost to second slip. That's ridiculous, it's moved by almost a metre.

Moeen's shot, incidentally, was almost identical to the one that got him out in the first innings. Josh Hazlewood will, understandably, continue.

    Have a look for yourselves...

    Yep - that's not out...

That's nice from Dawid Malan, a little drive off the back foot, and David Warner makes a rare mis-step in the field to knock it over the boundary rope.

Steve Smith, meanwhile, is still examining his finger tips after that decision from the third umpire. He doesn't have the best of poker faces, although I still don't think he was convinced it had carried.

Some short stuff comes Malan's way and he negotiates it well, watching it all the way.

Moeen sees out the over, and get a mouthful from Hazlewood for his troubles.

    Moeen survives!

Steve Smith has a kick of the turf as he walks back to the slips. He didn't really convincingly claim it, mind. It was a poor shot from Moeen, playing away from his body, but there's not enough evidence to make the umpire change his mind.

Cameras always cloud these things but I think that's bounced just before it gets to Steve Smith's fingertips at second slip...

Moeen's out! Or is he? He's edged the ball to Steve Smith but it's gone very low.

Smith's not sure, so the umpires go upstairs. The soft signal is not out...
