We'll worry about what the Aussie quicks might do on this pitch once England get these last two remaining wickets.

How quickly can the tourists wrap up this innings? The players are back out on the field, let's find out...

In case you're just joining us - Australia started the day 244-3 and with captain Steve Smith looking in imperious form once again.

The hosts added 16 more runs in a quiet start to the day, before Smith suddenly and surprisingly chopped a short, wide ball onto his own stumps for 76, giving Tom Curran a first Test wicket to remember.

Chris Woakes then had Mitchell Marsh again dragging on, with a resurgent Stuart Broad removing brother Shaun lbw for 61.

A third drag-on (yes, we've seen your jokes) followed as James Anderson bowled Tim Paine, before Broad snared Jackson Bird lbw to leave the tourists 326-8 at lunch.

Hello to those of you who have stayed up this far (or are joining us from destinations with a more favourable timezone.)

Enjoying your Christmas leftovers? Time to stack up some more supplies and stick with us after that impressive session from England.

    Cheers, Matt. Excellent stint.

I do have another festive-themed jumper with me today but don't currently have it on. Might have to change that - it's getting quite chilly in the early hours in BBC Sport towers.

Right that is me done for a while. I can't quite believe I have 'live-texted' on a session during which England have taken five wickets in this series.

Anyway, Jack Skelton - sadly without his eye-catching festive jumper of yesterday - is here to take you through the next session.

    Enjoy.

Over Test Match Special this lunchtime is an interesting look at the Australian Baggy Green by our own Stephan Shemilt.

It features interviews from a number of Aussie greats and Australian writer Gideon Haigh.

An excellent session for England, making use of a dry and lifeless pitch by drawing on their skill and experience. They're leaving the field with plenty more spring in their step than they did this time yesterday.

No wicket for Anderson in the final over before lunch but that is an excellent session for England.

They have taken five wickets on a lifeless pitch.

High fives for Stuart Broad as he walks off and applause from Joe Root to his team. They can be happy with that.

Suddenly England look like a side who have a plan and can execute decent stuff this morning.

If you take out the first session yesterday where Australia made 102-0, then it's been tough going for the batsmen. This score isn't huge for a Melbourne wicket but it could be good for this pitch.

I think it's probably a 220-odd pitch for England. Ha ha.

    Cummins 3, Hazlewood 0

Stuart Broad has taken two wickets for 10 runs in seven overs this morning. Josh Hazlewood makes his way to the middle. That wicket fell off the final ball of the over so it will be James Anderson to bowl this over on the stroke of lunch.

A little closer than it looked on first glance as it is called umpire's call on impact but that doesn't change the on-field decision.

A third wicket for Broad. Very, very good stuff from him. Two more wickets needed for England.

I thought there was some inside edge but Jackson Bird has walked straight off and he knows better! Oh, they're going to review it, well they have two left.

    This looks so, so out.

Broad to Bird. The ball thuds into the pad right in front of the stumps. Up goes the finger.

Australia review but only an inside edge can save him surely?

You could say that a keeper on the top of his game, moving early, might have taken that but the ball evades Bairstow's dive.

  19. Aus 322-7published at 113 overs

    Cummins 0, Bird 4

I said an over ago that Jackson Bird would come in at number 11 but he is actually the new man in at nine. Perhaps a reflection of the batting of Hazlewood and Lyon rather than a compliment to Jackson Bird.

There's an edge but safe! Good from Anderson but the ball flies just out of the reach of Jonny Bairstow low down to his right. It was catchable but would have needed the catch of the series.

The third drag-on of the day, which tells a story - on a slow, sluggish pitch it's hard to play cross-bat shots.
