Aaron Finch would be top of most averages after two centuries. The powerful opener was dismissed for 62 today, another wicket for Rashid and a key breakthrough in the 21st over. Finch has an average of 91 for the series and a strike-rate of 96.

Mitchell Starc is the most successful Australian bowler with six wickets in the three matches but he was wicketless today and went for 63 from his 10 overs.

Six wickets in the series now for leg-spinner Adil Rashid at a cost of 32 runs each, with an economy rate of 6.50. He played the most recent of his 10 Tests (he has a record of 38 wickets at 42 apiece) in December 2016 - will there be a recall?

  8. Postpublished at 11:42 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2018

Joe Root's dismissal for 27 today finally gives him a series average, following two not-outs in the first two matches. So 164 runs, one dismissal - average 164. What will he finish the series with?

England are such a dynamic side. They have so many bases covered with bat and ball - and don't forget they're still missing Ben Stokes.

  17. 'I'm so proud of how we fought back'published at 11:22 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2018

England captain Eoin Morgan: "Losing one of our quicks (Plunkett) hurt us quite a lot but I'm so proud of the way the guys fought back. The amount of character we showed at the end was great.

"It was required for everybody to give a bit extra. We weren't at our best in the field but with the ball we were excellent.

"It has probably been our best win as a group to date."

  18. 'It's the best win we've ever had'published at 11:20 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2018

Man of the match Jos Buttler, who made 100 not out off 83 balls: "Very special. It's the best win we've ever had - the way we were challenged throughout, Plunkett getting injured, Joe sticking his hand up to bowl the overs, and still fighting, and to win the series."

  19. 'Our one-day cricket hasn't been up to scratch'published at 11:19 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2018

Australia skipper Steve Smith: "For 45 overs our bowling was pretty good. Obviously Jos played exceptionally well and Woakes but I didn't think we bowled as well as we could have.

"We were probably chasing 30 too many and tonight we couldn't get that momentum going. We probably batted better than in the first two games but it wasn't enough."

On his controversial dismissal caught behind:"I was given out so I had to get off the field. I wasn't batting very well anyway so it gave someone else a chance.

"We've got a lot to learn. Our ODI cricket hasn't been up to scratch for a while so we have to find a way of winning games of cricket against quality opposition."
