  1. NZ 73-3published at 22 overs

    Guptill 48, Latham 10

"Come on buddy," chirps Jos Buttler in the direction of bowler Moeen Ali. Moeen responds with another tight over, even if he did get away with a wide final ball a little.

We are going to see a change in the next over. Here comes Ben Stokes...

If Martin Guptill bats another 15 to 20 overs, he can make up his strike rate. If he gets out, this approach actually puts more pressure on the men coming in.

  3. NZ 71-3published at 21 overs

Another poor one from Rashid but this time Latham misses out. He picks out the one fielder in the leg side and can only take a single. That was Rashid's sixth over. Maybe a change next up.

  4. NZ 69-3published at 20.2 overs

My bad, my bad. Sorry Adil.

Just as I say there's no sign of a boundary, Rashid bowls a half-tracker that is duly smashed to the square leg fence.

Remarkably, 122 balls into this innings, that's the first boundary by someone other than Martin Guptill.

England have done very well in the first 20 overs - they've bowled very straight and fielded superbly.

  6. NZ 65-3published at 20 overs

Here's Moeen Ali for the first time but there's no change in the pattern of play. Only singles served up and not a hint of a boundary or even a two. I know the Black Caps are rebuilding here but they're going to need something huge at the back end to post a total that will challenge England from here.

  7. NZ 61-3published at 19 overs

    Guptill 44, Latham 2

As Swanny says that's been a theme of this innings. There's no spin but Adil Rashid is able to keep on bowling dot balls. There are four of them in this over and he's managed 23 dots in five overs so far. He's gone for 10 runs overall so far. Outstanding.

Guptill has scored most of his runs in boundaries so far and is really struggling to work the singles away.

  9. NZ 59-3published at 18 overs

As ever Tom Curran is mixing it up. A full delivery to Latham allows the left hander to get off nought and then he bangs a bouncer in at Martin Guptill but it's called a wide. Just the two from the over. It's another quiet one.

That's another good over from Rashid, despite the boundary. Though I don't think he'll mind that stroke from Guptill too much.

  11. NZ 57-3published at 17 overs

    Rashid 4-0-8-0

    Watchful, watchful, watchful, aggression.

Martin Guptill collects another four and he's done it on exactly the right delivery. With Rashid on target he blocks out the first four balls but with a hint of width he cuts and cuts fine. It beats third man and runs quickly down for four.

Good batting and to be fair pretty good bowling apart from that delivery.

  12. NZ 53-3published at 16 overs

    Guptill 39, Latham 0

Martin Guptill steals the strike with a nudge into the off side on the final ball of Curran's over. He's looking strong now against the seamers but not so much against Rashid. Guptill will be facing England's leg spinner next.

  13. NZ 52-3published at 15.3 overs

    Less of that, Tom.

England have been so good in line so far but Tom Curran drifts badly onto Martin Guptill's pads and he collects the simplest of boundaries.

New Zealand's hopes largely depend on Guptill here.

It's good to see that England have clearly said to themselves that they needed to raise their standards in the field from the first match.

  15. NZ 48-3published at 15 overs

Looking at the replays of that wicket, you could see Ross Taylor thought he had beaten David Willey with his cut shot. He was off down the pitch as soon as the ball left the bat.

Tom Latham, who scored 79 in the last match, is the new man. New Zealand are in a spot of bother here.

That is out. And it's a big wicket too.

Taylor run out Willey 10 (NZ 48-3)

Not even close. Ross Taylor is at least a yard short as Jos Buttler whips off the bails.

It was a half-tracker from Adil Rashid which was slapped by Ross Taylor through the off side. David Willey dived to his right to stop the ball before spinning on the turf and hurling a throw right at the stumps and into the gloves of Buttler. Outstanding stuff.

This is world class by David Willey.

  19. Umpire reviewpublished at 14.5 overs

What was I saying about the fielding?! Brilliant from David Willey at backward point. England think they have Taylor run out. Taylor agrees. He's already on his way off. The umpires are having a look.
