The cloud's been around for the whole day, we've not seen much of the sun at all. The light will play a part - and the umpires have set a standard [on the previous days], they just need to keep checking it with their light meters.

  2. NZ 41-0published at 20 overs

Latham tucks off his pads for one and Raval pulls to deep square for another.

The light meter is out again - it's coming out after every over at the moment.

That was the first run in 31 balls.

  4. NZ 39-0published at 19 overs

That was indeed going high and wide of leg stump.

New Zealand finally score another run as Latham inside edges it into leg for one.

I think it was missing leg. With the angle of delivery, you need to straighten that ball, and there's no swing for Anderson at the moment.

  6. NZ 38-0published at 18.2 overs

Anderson slides one through Latham's prod and onto the pads. Big appeal but not given. That wasn't straightening enough and was most likely sliding past leg.

Raval's had to work hard, but you give him a little tick for his stickability today because it's not been easy for him. At the moment he's just happy to absorb pressure.

This is a good examination of Latham by Anderson.

    Target 382

Make that a fourth straight maiden for the tourists.

Broad goes round the wicket at Raval, trying to exploit the footholes but can't tease him into a loose drive.

It's almost certain that we're going to get some bad light tonight. It's just a question of when.

  10. NZ 38-0published at 17 overs

Anderson trudges off but that's another top over and a third maiden in a row for England.

Can they make the pressure tell?

A nice height for a catch, but it was just wide of Vince and it went down. Sometimes they stick.

Jeremy Coney adds: It would have gone straight to a fourth slip - but Vince was at third.

  12. dropped catch

Latham dropped on 23published at 16.1 overs

James Anderson draws Tom Latham into the drive and the edge flies towards the slips but down it goes.

James Vince had to dive to his left at third slip and could not cling on. A tough chance though - he had to go one-handed and couldn't get the second across to gather it in.

Joe Root puts in a fourth slip in response.

Anderson can't get the ball to swing, so he's relying on trying to hit the pitch hard to get the ball to move, which is more like Broad.

And Broad looks a bit down on pace, I don't know whether that's because of his rhythm, or whether he's over-straining.

The umpires are getting a bit twitchy because of this light situation.

    Target 382

Control but not much menace from Broad as he sends down a maiden to Raval.

What Broad needs to do is to pitch the ball in line and bring it back, like he did against Nicholls in the first innings.

  17. NZ 38-0published at 15.1 overs

Stuart Broad zips one through onto Jeet Raval's pads. Huge appeal but Marais Erasmus is unmoved.

Replays show it was hitting but crucially pitched outside leg stump.

  18. NZ 38-0published at 15 overs

    Raval 15, Latham 23

Ooof. A fuller delivery from Anderson round the wicket induces the drive from Latham but the ball leaves him and zips past the outside edge. Close.

Another tight and tidy over from Anderson - a maiden.

The fourth umpire has just jogged out to the middle with some new batteries for the light meter.

You sense it will be being used later.
