I'm not sure we're going to get all the overs in today. If we lose a big chunk of play, it cuts down on England's chances of winning, but also New Zealand's. And sometimes, you have to keep a batting side interested - but the prime motive of New Zealand will be to not lose the game, so they win the series.

The forecast tomorrow is for a brighter day.

Both of England's supreme opening bowlers are back on after tea as Stuart Broad returns.

Tom Latham pushes into the covers for one before Jeet Raval flicks it fine and scampers two.

    Target 382

Tom Latham gets the first run after tea as he inside edges into leg for one.

Jeet Raval then leaves on height as the ball zips over his off stump.

So if Anderson and Broad can't do it all by themselves again, who is most likely to take some vital wickets for England?

Plenty of good stories possible - Wood starring on his return to the side, Leach making a fine start to his Test career, Stokes shrugging off a back injury to make something happen.

Bairstow appears to play better when he trusts the tail and doesn't have to manufacture non-percentage shots eg with his rampish shot in the Ashes. Leach is a good partner for him in this respect.

We've got a really good game on. If New Zealand bat for 130 overs, they will be very close to the target. It's going to be hard work for England - they need to find support for Anderson and Broad.

There are 35 overs left in the day, although I'd be surprised if we got them all in.

Stick around for TMS, who are chatting to the doyen of cricket writing, Scyld Berry.

It'll be Jack Skelton to take you through to the close. In a bit.

Under the circumstances and the clouds, that's a good effort by New Zealand. You'd have expect Anderson and Broad to do more damage.

  13. Tea - NZ 34-0published at 04:11 British Summer Time 2 April 2018

Despite Jack Leach's best effort - he comes charging in from fine leg - England aren't going to be able to steal another over before tea.

That was a very good little hour for New Zealand.

Mark Wood is not looking good.

  15. NZ 34-0published at 12 overs

    Target 382

Four! Mark Wood overpitched in his first over so he goes short in this next one, and Jeet Raval pulls him down to the square leg boundary.

Wood readjusts, and doesn't concede a run for the rest of the over.

During the tea interval on TMS, you can hear some highlights from the day's play so far - and they'll be speaking to Daily Telegraph cricket correspondent Scyld Berry, who received an award from NZ captain Kane Williamson before play today to mark his 450th Test.

That's a good over from Jack Leach, as he gets another delivery to nip past Tom Latham's bat.

Leach wants it but Latham isn't going anywhere and they've all settled down. It turned out of a foothole.

    Hello!

Turn and bounce there for Jack Leach as he gets one to drift in to Tom Latham, but the ball drifts past the bat and into Latham's pad. There's a big appeal, but no dice.

  20. NZ 30-0published at 10.1 overs

There's a few interesting dark patches outside Jeet Raval's off stump for Jack Leach to play with.

Good line from Leach, but he's just a touch full and Raval tonks the ball away for three.
