It's a big ask on debut, but how much can Jack Leach contribute to England's push for victory on day five?

He has experience bowling Somerset to victory in the County Championship but will he be able to translate it to international level?

It's incomprehensible but it seems everyone's to blame, including England.

Simon Mann adds: It's the administrators' fault.

Realistically, they're going to get 75-80 overs in today. There's a bit of cloud around today, so it could be curtains by about five o'clock (06:00 BST).

Ah. Yes, apparently they can look to make up time at the end of the day but that definitely won't happen in Christchurch.

It has been getting very gloomy by 5pm local time each time and, now the level at which play is called off has been set, it would need a suddenly much brighter day for play to go on much later than that.

It's a funny one - there are laws of cricket, playing regulations and playing conditions set for each series. Clearly nobody knew what was going on yesterday, as umpire Marais Erasmus said at one point that we'd be starting early. But we won't. Apparently the change of start time because of the clock change was also sorted out at the last minute.

But on 21 March, the ECB signed up with the Black Caps to agree that time would be added on at the end of the day in day games, and at the start of the day in day-night games.

It's a glorious day, and as we suspected, we would have no problems at all starting now (at 10am). But we're going to start at 10.30.

It's important to make sure England bowl their 30 overs in each session as we will be chasing the light by the final session.

The match lost about an hour and 20 minutes due to bad light at Hagley Oval yesterday.

But we're not starting half an hour early today, because of concerns about dew.

Would you like to guess how much dew is actually on the outfield?

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the final day of the second Test in Christchurch.

New Zealand will resume on 42-0, requiring a further 340 runs to win and take the series 2-0.

England need 10 wickets to draw the series and salvage something from their winter.

A draw will give the Kiwis a 1-0 series win. Tom Latham (25 not out) and Jeet Raval (17 not out) dug in well last night before bad light stopped play. How will England's bowlers respond this morning?

About 200 years ago (actually 23 November 2017) the first Ashes Test between England and Australia got under way in Brisbane.

Since then, we've mainly live texted on brief glimpses of hope before crushingly inevitable disappointment for Joe Root's side in Test cricket.

Can they finally win a Test match to end this grisly winter tour?

Or will an admirable and entertaining New Zealand side pull off the greatest run chase in their history?

And, of course, it could all end in a draw. Cricket, eh?
