Bess and Buttler have done a tremendous job of steadying things since Joe Root was out lbw to Mohammad Abbas and we started thinking the match could be wrapped up today...

Another appeal against Dom Bess as he presses forward to Shadab Khan, but that's trailing down leg.

Shadab then reminds Bess of that troublesome rough as he sneaks one past his outside edge. Maiden.

Benjamin Dito Smith: Liking the recovery but Wood, Broad and Anderson are not going to support Buttler like Bess. Have we ever had a worse tail?

A half-hearted appeal as Hasan Ali bends his back on a short ball, and the ball ricochets off Dom Bess' armpit an into Sarfraz's gloves.

Bess played that tremendously well, actually, ensuring his arms were out of the way. Bess adds insult to injury with a delicate push through mid-wicket.

Just the 12 from that over!

Dom Bess gets in behind a short ball from Hasan Ali.

Ooft, shot! Short, wide, and given the full Dom Bess treatment. Sarfraz comes jogging down to give his bowler a telling off.

I like the look of Dom Bess.

Dom Bess gets down on one knee and paddle sweeps Shadab Khan gently around the corner for one.

It all feels lovely and sedate now, as Jos Buttler advances and crashes a single down the field.

I want Wood to play but I want to find out if he can stay fit, you can't keep breaking down with his ankle or his knee.

We've had a ball change, which Hasan Ali is currently charging in with.

Jos Buttler pulls it away for a leisurely single.

It's just got a bit scrappy from Pakistan in the past few overs, as Hasan Ali advances at mid-wicket and Jos Buttler's push dribbles through his legs for a single.

The umpires then test the ball to see if it has been knocked out of shape - and while they do that, we're going to have some drinks.

Gavin Butler: Is there a case to promote Buttler to opener with Cook in the next Test match enabling England to bring in either Wokes or Moeen at seven to provide another bowling option whilst maintaining enough batting power to at least replicate Stoneman's current batting output?

A little bit of width, and Jos Buttler frees his arms to push a single away, before Dom Bess leans back and carves Shadab's googly down to third man for four.

England are only eight runs behind...

Just because you look as though you are going to lose, you can't give up, that's not the spirit you want from any member of your side. Miracles don't happen too often but now and again they do.

Hello! There's zip from Mohammad Amir, the ball moving in and just nipping past Dom Bess' lavish attempt at a drive.

Bess berates himself, before another drive through extra cover and picking up yet another boundary. What a shot that is.
