    Bairstow c Paine b Stanlake 79 (Eng 183-2)

Er, maybe. A very strange dismissal and England have now lost both openers in quick succession.

Billy Stanlake bangs it down back of a length and Jonny Bairstow tries to guide it fine through third man but ends up playing it straight into the gloves of Tim Paine.

No edge, that came off the middle of the bat.

Bairstow is livid as he stomps off, a fifth century in seven matches seemed to be his for the taking.

Jhye Richardson is back into the attack, Paine turning to a strike bowler after the wicket, looking for further breakthroughs. Richardson's dark hair is blown back in the breeze. Jonny Bairstow, for once, struggles with timing. I'm out of here. Here's Jack Skelton.

Jonny Bairstow removed his helmet and applauded Roy from the field. Roy kissed his bat as he departed and got backslaps as he returned to the dressing room. Alex Hales is the new man.

    Roy c Marsh b Lyon 101 (Eng 174-1)

Where has that come from? England lose a wicket and, as we suspected, it comes from batsman error. Jason Roy's fine knock is over in ugly fashion. He plays a hack at Nathan Lyon, but can only get a thick edge to short third man. A tiny glimmer of hope for the Aussies?

This reminds of when I played ODIs against Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist. We would think we'd done well hitting 240 and they'd come out and make us look silly.

Oh that has gone miles! Jason Roy gets the century he missed out on at Trent Bridge. My word he's played well.

What a way to go to a century! Jason Roy gets to three figures with a maximum, belting Nathan Lyon over mid-wicket. It's been a fabulous knock, his second ton of the series. 81 balls. 12 fours and two sixes. It seems a while ago that he got dropped for a lack of form.

If I was Gareth Southgate "Bairstow" and "Roy" would be the first names on my team sheet against Panama.

Tim Paine comes up to the stumps for the medium-pace of Stoinis. The skipper is wearing shades and a helmet. That's a tricky combo to get right. Roy wants a single when Bairstow edged to short third man, but Bairstow doesn't budge. Roy has to return from three-quarters of the way down the track. Australia bowling for run-outs.

The sun dips behind a cloud as Lyon twirls away. The offie is having a chuckle at something. perhaps it's the futility of the job he is being asked to do. He ends the over with his hands on his knees, then has a chat with umpire Marais Erasmus. "Where would you bowl, Marais?"

This might even be more impressive than Trent Bridge. Yep, England got 400-and-plenty, but they were basically playing against themselves there. They got out of the traps and never looked back. Here, Australia have got a decent total, but are being made to look like an under-12s side. I can't see Marcus Stoinis getting a wicket, even England batted with the handle. Jason Roy into the 90s.

Chris has text us on 81111 to say the Butcher's Arms is less than a 15-minute walk from Chester-le-Street. Good info. Nathan Lyon after drinks, spreadeagling himself to appeal for leg before against Roy. Not given. Paine thinks about a review, but Lyon thinks it's high.

Tim Paine is just in a holding role as skipper in this series. It's a weirdly ambassadorial role. Australia will look at other options to captain this side in the future.
