The mindset of England's batsmen is continuously to throw their hands at the ball when they're under pressure to try and get them out of that pressure.

"Barmy Army, Barmy Army," is now the chant. Sam Curran is lifting the belief around Edgbaston just a little. He knocks the ball into the off side again and the crowd will the ball to beat the fielder and then boo when the Indian makes the stop.

Runs, runs, runs. Another edgy drive for four, this time from Adil Rashid. Every run is being cheered now. England's 12th man is trying to drag this total up.

Four more! Sam Curran flashes hard and the ball flies over the slips.

"To the Eng-er-land four more" the crowd sing.

Sam Curran has looked good so far. He's into the twenties. Sorry if this jinxes him.

Putting Mohammed Shami on is the first move of the day that hasn't worked for India. It's allowed the ball to travel to the boundary several times.

  7. dropped catch

That's a very, very tough chance but it carried. Sam Curran gets an under edge on a cut shot and it goes fast and low to Shikhar Dhawan at first slip. Dhawan has caught everything that has come his way today but hardly even gets his hands down in time.

Virat Kohli, a seriously hard taskmaster, still waves his arms in frustration. The ball goes for four. Crucial runs.

And again! This one is a little more controlled but still edgy down to third man. Nine from the over.

Every run now is absolute gold dust. If England's lower order and tail can hang around, it will deflate India, just as India did to England yesterday.

Dennis the Menace is chatting to two proper policemen in the crowd. I'd love to hear the conversation. I hope Dennis hasn't been a naughty boy.

There is still no pace in his pitch, despite what the scorecard might make you think. Adil Rashid has plenty of time to paddle two bouncers around the corner to fine leg. Rashid needs to be careful though. India have a leg gully there for the catch.

Sam Curran has left the ball really well against Ishant Sharma so far. Middle order, take note...

Sam Curran should be batting way up the order, the way he's going.

Lovely from Sam Curran. He's a short man but stands as tall as he can to play off the back foot into the off side. The sweeper on the boundary keeps the runs down to a couple. Curran, looking an experienced international, calmly jogs back to take more of the bowling.

But that now one to the bowler. Good from Mohammed Shami and Curran has a little nibble. The Indian seamer stands and stares halfway down the pitch. Curran doesn't get involved.

It's the Indian fans banging their drums in the crowd with chants of "In-di-a, In-di-a".

Sam Curran is glaring down the pitch at Ishant Sharma who leaps into the crease. Shot! Full from Ishant and the 20-year-old drives through point for four.

That's the hundred up! The England fans make themselves heard now.

    "Hold my isotonic drink..."

The cloud has rolled in again actually which might be why seamer Mohammed Shami has been introduced. Shami dismissed Curran in the first innings too.

Adil Rashid has 10 first-class hundreds. Sam Curran's first-class average is 27.30 with a top score of 96. I'm just trying to give you England fans a bit of hope.

No scares in Shami's first over.

For the first time in the innings Ravichandran Ashwin has been withdrawn from the attack. I'm a little surprised with left-handed Sam Curran in.

    Mohammed Shami replaces him.

Need to pick Harry Maguire for the next Test.

Jos Buttler looks absolutely gutted. He has his shirt pulled up over his face in the dressing room as the camera zooms in. Trevor Bayliss is sat next to him with his floppy hat on and one leg crossed on top of the other. He doesn't seem to be saying anything.

For some reason Adil Rashid goes after one that was almost wide of the cut strip. Surely just play yourself in?!

Adil Rashid is off the mark. He drops and runs into the off side.

Ishant Sharma has his cap off almost before Ravi Ashwin bowls the last ball of his over. He can't wait to have a go at Adil Rashid. This has been some spell.
