There are four lads in the Hollies who I think are supposed to be Cool Runnings, but their bobsleigh suits have the flag of the Bahamas on them. I'm trying to figure out if it's a joke that I don't get.

Philly: Joe Clarke has to play at Lord's.

Bharath Narayanan: Indian supporter here. I find it incredible how much the English players get criticised. These guys are good. They will get found out. They just need to be encouraged to weed out flaws and should be given the license to fail without criticism.

Ben Stokes is staying back to Ravichandran Ashwin, allowing the ball to spin before playing late.

Twice he clips off the pads to square leg, the first time picking up two, the second time just one.

India's batting line-up is a little fragile and lacking in confidence. If they are chasing 200 and you get Virat Kohli out early then you are in the game.

If you don't get Kohli out then you'll need 260 or 270.

Jeepers. Ishant Sharma sends down an absolute peach of an inswinger that catches the outside edge of Jonny Bairstow's bat.

Fortunately for him and England, the ball flies straight down and bounces well in front of slip.

Plenty of demand at the Edgbaston bars today. One fella with a loudspeaker is trying to marshal people into the correct queuing system, which feels delightfully British.

Bairstow almost falls in the same fashion as he did in the first innings, flashing at a wide-ish one and seeing the ball fly just past his stumps off the bottom edge.

It streaks away for four this time.

I find it amazing that India only picked one spinner especially with Jadeja and Kuldeep on the sidelines and England being pretty useless against spin.

It might be worth one of these three - Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes or Jos Buttler - having a dart to get back some momentum for England and remove some catchers because at the moment England are being suffocated.

  11. Eng 75-4published at 28 overs

Jonny Bairstow goes for the sweep and the ball loops straight up but crucially over Dinesh Karthik. The Yorkshireman scampers two then takes a single.

Ravichandran Ashwin to have his first go at Ben Stokes...

Stokes leaves, defends and then drives a full ball towards cover for no run.

Ethan Morris:, external At least Malan has seen how you catch the ball in the slips.

Neil Pete: Well that’s Malan done in Tests then. Probably Moeen will be back for Lord's but surely they need to find a right hander.

Dave Wood: Surely the end of Malan now? Time to get Vince back in.

Since the match at Perth when Dawid Malan scored his century he has scored 233 runs at 19.40 in 12 innings.

New man Ben Stokes gets off the mark with a push into mid-wicket for one.

It was pretty tough to watch Dawid Malan struggle today. Can Bairstow, Stokes and Jos Buttler stay safe but score quickly to put some pressure back on India?

That is not a great shot from Malan. He was playing to mid on and edged to gully. It was like a tripod shot.

That has opened the door with another leftie coming in.

Ishant Sharma has really tested Dawid Malan with the ball that angles in and shapes away from round the wicket and finally gets his man.

Malan tries to tap it towards mid on but the movement away sees the ball take the outside edge and Ajinkya Rahane completes a solid catch at gully.

Sharma turned Malan inside out there and England are in trouble, still needing a big partnership.

Will Malan be in the team at Lord's?

Henri Cooke: Root should give up the captaincy and concentrate on being the best England batsman of his generation. Buttler should lead this side.

Jordan Sullivan: No way is Root getting abuse! Leave off! Great captain! Probably the same people who put up with Captain Caught Behind for so long. Grow up.

James McHale: Root forced into the captaincy too soon - because there was no one else. Naturally, it's ruined his game.

Malan doesn't pick the arm ball but survives as it slides past his stumps.

Ashwin then slides down leg and Malan clips it away for two.
