Joe Root has got his bowlers about right today. With an eye on the close, this looks a good move to bring Adil Rashid on.

Eng 180: Curran (63) rallies from 87-7

Adil Rashid is coming on to bowl.
Can someone fetch the narrative klaxon in case he gets Virat Kohli out please?
Not much that troubled Karthik there from Stokes.

We need Steve Harmison's slower ball to Michael Clarke in 2005.

Ben Stokes digs it in at Virat Kohli's ribs and the India captain turns it round the corner for one.
England are going to a short ball trap when Stokes is on. I don't think Kohli or Karthik are interested in playing any hooks or pulls here though. Hmm.
Andrew Samson
BBC Test Match Special statistician
Virat Kohli has scored 50% of India's runs in this match.
Joe Root does not agree with Michael Vaughan for now. Ben Stokes is staying on.
If Adil Rashid is not bowling now, on a turning pitch that the opposition spinner has got wickets on, will he bowl again in this match?
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
It is time for Adil Rashid.
Target 194
Virat Kohli rides a short ball and guides it down to third man for one more.
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
Kohli has played better for his first 39 runs today than he did yesterday. Yesterday he played and missed a lot more and there was that dropped catch. Today he has missed a few but not many. His control has been very good.
Broad goes to the inswinger next, but it starts too wide and Kohli leaves.
The India captain walks away and has a word with himself, still annoyed he played at the previous ball.
Oooh. Virat Kohli fends at a wide-ish one from Stuart Broad, who rolled his fingers across the ball, getting it to cut away.

Olly: Constantly changing where I am sitting at home hoping a different seat gets the wicket of Kohli. Got to try something - the man is a wall.
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
It is nerve-wracking. Can England produce some magic tonight and get rid of the India captain this evening?
Target 194
Karthik keeps out the first inswinger and then just about rides a bouncer to play it downwards.
Stokes then goes to the short stuff again. Is he perhaps setting him up to expect a bouncer but send down the one that angles in?
Maybe not. Another bouncer to finish that Karthik easily ducks under. A maiden for Stokes.
Ben Stokes continues for now.
Expect more hooping inswingers to Dinesh Karthik.

Virat Kohli slides it off the outside face of the bat and picks up one off Stuart Broad.
Will England give Adil Rashid a bowl tonight?
If India get to needing 50 with Kohli still in, that will be too late to turn to Rashid.

The lights are on but the natural light is getting a bit better.

This is my favourite addition to the food stands at Edgbaston. It’s currently blasting out some old school disco tunes, which feels oddly fitting.
