That's got to be one of the best and most memorable morning sessions an England Test team has ever had.

Not just their highest Test run-scorer reaching his century in his final match.

Not just their captain playing himself back into fine form.

But they've also added 129 runs in utterly dominant fashion, not really looking like losing a wicket, to put themselves in a very strong position to secure a 4-1 series win against the world number one Test team.

    Whew.

An amazing day. I don't think anyone really cares about anything right now other than Alastair Cook. I know I don't.

That is Cook's 15th second innings century, which is the most by any batsman in Test cricket. It was the fourth five of his Test career.

    Cook 103, Root 92

It's wide from Ravindra Jadeja and Alastair Cook leaves well alone.

The England opener tucks his bat under his arms and strides off, unbeaten on 103.

Every India fielder jogs up to him to shake his hand on the way off as The Oval crowd rise once more to applaud the England great from the field.

Joe Root walks off on 92 not out and looking in fine touch.

England are 283 runs ahead and have absolutely dominated India this morning.

This should be the last ball before lunch...

Again Ravindra Jadeja hangs it out full and wide and Joe Root whacks a sweep shot towards the fence.

This time he only gets three but it's been a poor tactic from India to have Jadeja bowling there. He's much better when fizzing it straighter into the batsmen, looking for lbw or caught in close.

Drink it in. Have a laugh and a cry while doing so.

Here is the moment Alastair Cook reached his 33rd Test century in his final match for England...

Jasprit Bumrah angles it into Joe Root's pads and there is a huge appeal but nothing doing. That was sliding down leg.

Again Bumrah slips past Root's legs and this time Rishabh Pant does well to cling on.

Root waits for a slower one and dabs into off for one more.

Charles Tilley: That celebration, can’t get over that. Absolutely fantastic!!!! Goosebumps!!!

Nick: Myself and 2 other colleagues all spontaneously laughed out loud (all listening on our headphones) in the office as the crowd cheered for the overthrows for Cook to get to his 100

Benjamin: Didn't Cook score his Oval ton in 2010 against Pakistan, the potentially career saving one, on overthrows also?

    Cook 102, Root 88

Amid the focus on Cook, it's been brilliant batting by both him and Root this morning to really put India into the mire.

Root gets down and sweetly times a sweep shot off Jadeja to the fence for four more and six off the over.

Jasprit Bumrah was the man who tried to absolutely leather the ball into the non-striker's end and made an absolute hash of it, the ball firing away to the opposite boundary.

He'll continue with the ball now...
