Jasprit Bumrah is wound up for another spell, running in like a bloke jumping over a load of mini-hurdles. Bumrah is a happy chap, always with a smile. It's a good job, because his side are getting battered and he's bowled into the dirt. The tension has gone from The Oval. Now it's just about how many England will get.

Missed the last day of the Oval test in 2005 because of a job interview. Didn't get the job either. Bitter to this day - about missing the test, not the job.

One suspects that Ravi Jadeja is booked in from the Pavilion End. Root is oscillating, eager to get after the spinner. England will want at least another 100 before tea. Cook, meanwhile, is treating us to a Greatest Hits Show. A cut for four.

How do you report it tomorrow if James Anderson takes the three wickets he needs to surpass Glenn McGrath later?

They'd need some more pages in the paper.

Ishant has his tracksuit on and is sitting at the back of the dressing room. He does not look like a bloke who will bowling any time soon, or even again on this tour. Help yourself time for England.

That's the sort of shot that Joe Root would've nicked to second slip earlier in the summer.

Get ready for some carnage. Awesome square drive by Root. India are are on the ropes. With Ishant Sharma off the field, they only have two pace bowlers.

This is the second 200 partnership between Alastair Cook and Joe Root, following the 248 they put on against West Indies last year.

It's the 10th time Cook has been involved in a 200 partnership in Tests.

There was a long, eyes-closed, kiss of the badge from Root, then a bear hug from Alastair Cook. The second new ball is available, but India haven't taken it yet.

Rarely can a Test century by an England captain be so overshadowed but it's been a superb knock by Joe Root.

It's being very warmly greeted by this Oval crowd.

My Dad never was forced to leave a certain 1981 Ashes Test at Headingley because my 2 year old self had been rushed to Leeds Hospital suffering from a severe asthma attack. He then watched the greatest comeback in Test history from the end of my bed on a tiny screen in the children's ward. He never let me forget it and I don't blame him, although my Mum always maintains there was a significant gap between the tannoy announcement and his arrival at the hospital. Approximately one session I believe.
