  1. Eng 172-9published at 48.2 overs

Brunt smacks the recalled Khaka over extra cover and they scamper back for two. She drills the next one to long-on, but there's a fielder there and Brunt has lost the strike...

Hopefully we'll see a few more fireworks from Brunt.

  3. WATCH: Ismail bowls Marsh with clever change of pacepublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 9 June 2018

Just one more wicket to catch up on - this was Laura Marsh's dismissal.

  4. Eng 169-9published at 48 overs

    Brunt 61, Ecclestone 5

Another four, this time through extra cover, is blasted by Brunt who now has her highest international score, having scored a 52 in both Tests and ODIs. Next ball, Brunt goes down the wicket and launches Kapp over square leg for four more! What's more, a single to extra cover ensures she keeps the strike. England's best over of the innings!

  5. 50 runs

50 for Katherine Bruntpublished at 47.2 overs

    Eng 160-9

Marizanne Kapp returns - she has two overs left so can bowl the 48th and 50th if required. But Ecclestone, undaunted, forces a single through the leg side to get Katherine Brunt back on strike on 48. And the Barnsley biffer launches a four back over the bowler's head for her second ODI half-century!

I'm not sure I can say this, but if there were a boxing match for charity between two female international cricketers, I'd like to see Katherine Brunt take on Shabnim Ismail. They're both feisty characters, it would probably finish with them both flat out.

  7. Eng 155-9published at 47 overs

    Brunt 48, Ecclestone 3

Ismail to finish her spell - Brunt edges towards that half-century, Ecclestone helps her by rotating the strike, then she takes a big swing and it takes a leading edge... but falls safely. The bowler is furious.

Ismail is done for the day - finishing with 3-25 from her 10 overs.

Katherine Brunt came into last year's World Cup with a highest ODI score of 31. Since then, she's scored a 45 not out, 34 in the final, 52 at Coffs Harbour, and now 46 today.

Now, Van Niekerk has two overs of Kapp and and over of Khaka available, but opts to continue to bowl herself. The tall Ecclestone defends well and squeezes a single to square leg off the fifth ball to take England to 150. Brunt does well to nick the strike with a swept single off the last - she has 46 from 82 balls.

  10. Eng 148-9published at 45 overs

    Brunt 45, Ecclestone 1

Teenager Sophie Ecclestone, now the proud possessor of a central contract, is England's number 11, can she hang around long enough to allow Brunt to club a few more? Another slower ball from Ismail nearly does for the tail-ender, but she's off the mark by guiding a single to fine leg, Although England might rather have had Brunt on strike next over...

    Marsh b Ismail 15 (Eng 148-9)

Ismail pulls it back for South Africa with a clever change of pace which deceives Marsh. England are one wicket away from being bowled out, but Marsh's 15 from 27 balls could be worth its weight in gold if England can win this.

  12. Eng 148-8published at 44.2 overs

Marsh is not overawed as the pace of Shabnim Ismail returns - a deft glance to third man brings up the fifty partnership.

This is England's best ninth-wicket ODI partnership against South Africa, beating a 37 by Holly Colvin and Lydia Greenway at Shenley in 2008.

  14. Eng 146-8published at 44 overs

    Brunt 44, Marsh 14

Dane van Niekerk is trying to put the squeeze on England, but it ain't working - after she and Brunt pick off a single apiece, Marsh has time to guide a single to backward point despite two fielders converging on the ball. DVN takes her cap from the umpire with a scowl on her face.

I think England are already in the realms of a defendable total, especially when you consider they have Brunt and Shrubsole, two swing bowlers of the highest quality. If they get to 150, they will feel confident enough. There isn't the depth in the South Africa side.

  16. Eng 143-8published at 43 overs

    Brunt 43, Marsh 12

England plunder more runs from Tryon - Brunt helps herself to a two, before square-driving a four past the diving Lackay at backward point, and whipping four more over short fine leg.

During the interval today, you'll be able to hear from ECB director of women's cricket Clare Connor on TMS.

I think Mignon du Preez has kept before for South Africa, she might be a better option than Lee. You just want to keep things clean. South Africa have a strong top six, but I don't think they have the depth of England.

Phil Long adds: Du Preez has kept in three ODIs, most recently in February 2013.

  18. Eng 132-8published at 42 overs

South Africa aren't being helped by their choice of wicketkeeper today - allowing Marsh to run two byes as one scoots straight through Lizelle Lee. Captain Dane van Niekerk, who's brought herself back on for a second spell, is fluently swept by Marsh and whisper it quietly, England may be edging towards a defendable total. Is 150 too much to ask?

A good crowd in today - a lot of pastel shirts, which suggests it's quite warm.

  20. Eng 125-8published at 41 overs

Tryon to continue, the helmeted Lee up to the stumps as Brunt and Marsh continue to force the pace with ones and twos. You wouldn't have found much optimism half-an-hour ago that England would bat the overs out. From 64-6, this represents a recovery.
