The running has improved, though it's a bit like tip-and-run at the moment.

  2. Eng 119-8published at 40 overs

Short spells for SA's bowlers at the moment as Khaka replaces Kapp. Marsh and Brunt remain busy at the crease, and once again there's a good stop in the deep - this time from Marizanne Kapp - to deny England a boundary. But the Prioteas' boundary fielding has been in contrast to Lizelle Lee's untidy wicketkeeping, as she fails to gather a throw which allows England to run an overthrow.

Buoyed by that, Brunt advances and powerfully smacks Khaka for four through extra cover, yelling as she sees the ball disappear to the rope. England's best over for a long while. Eyes down for the last 10.

Not many of the England batters have stayed in long enough to need, or indeed deserve, a drink - but 12th man Lauren Winfield runs on with a drink for Brunt between overs.

Laura's brought a lot of energy to the crease, they've run well.

  5. Eng 110-8published at 39 overs

Now, here's the conundrum for SA. There are 12 overs left. Their three leading seamers only have two overs left each. So if it goes the distance, they're going to need more overs from Tryon and Van Niekerk. And it's the left-armer Chloe Tryon into the attack - a single apiece for the England pair.

Laura Marsh has batted in every position in ODIs, bar number 11.

  8. Eng 108-8published at 38 overs

    Brunt 21, Marsh 6

Kapp fires one into Brunt's thigh pad, Marsh calls her for a run, Brunt is hesitant but Lee behind the stumps is wide with her throw to the bowler's end. Marsh does well to force a three through the covers, denied on the rope by a great tumbling stop from the diminutive Mignon du Preez.

What percentage has it been England's poor batting today, compared to South Africa's good bowling?

Probably 70% poor batting and poor decision-making. Katherine Brunt has shown it's not a bad wicket out there. They've not played straight enough for long enough.

    Ismail 8-2-18-2

Brunt, always a fierce competitor, is characteristically undaunted by taking on South Africa's quick bowlers. A single and a leg bye advance the score - Ismail has 2-18 from eight.

Important phase for England. There are still a lot of overs left, and I've been impressed with how Laura Marsh has come on and rotated the strike.

  12. Eng 102-8published at 36 overs

    Brunt 21, Marsh 2

South Africa sense they can wrap up this innings - and gamble by bringing back Marizanne Kapp so their opening bowlers can try to run through England's lower order. Kapp and Ismail will both have bowled seven overs after this one.

England's fans haven't had much to cheer today - but there's a smattering of applause as the score moves past 100

Laura Marsh - who's opened for England in this format - is in at number 10 today. Ismail tries a short ball to Brunt, who's through the shot quickly and it flies up off her shoulder but falls safely. A single takes Brunt to 19, Marsh is yet to face.

Not the best decision - it was Shrubsole's call and she went for it straight away.

This is really poor. You've just rebuilt, Anya's not the quickest and they've just gone and thrown it away. Tryon had three stumps to aim at.

Shrubsole run out (Tryon direct hit) 7 (Eng 98-8)

Oh, dear. Shrubsole hits the ball straight to Chloe Tryon at mid-wicket and goes for a single anyway - putting in the dive but a direct hit leaves her well short.

The total England will be looking to surpass - their lowest against South Africa in a completed ODI innings - was 143 in the 2000 World Cup at Lincoln, New Zealand. Lottie was playing in that one.

Charlotte Edwards adds: "Thanks Phil, I've been trying to erase that one from my mind!"

  19. Eng 97-7published at 34 overs

Van Niekerk is going to have to do a lot of bowling in the last few overs if England stay in. She starts the over with a legside wide, while Shrubsole nurdles a single. Brunt helps herself to a couple, England are closing on three figures.
