Summary

  • Eng 141-3 (Wyatt 50, Beaumont 35)

  • NZ 137-9; having been 84-2 in 10th over

  • Tri-series final, Chelmsford

  1. Eng 61-0published at 7 overs

    Need 77 from 78 balls

Devine to continue, and after a single from Beaumont, Wyatt continues her assault from the last over with two more back-to-back fours, flogging New Zealand all around Chelmsford. Where do you bowl at her in this mood?

  2. Eng 49-0published at 6 overs

    Wyatt 26 (21 balls), Beaumont 23 (15)

Hayley Jensen switches to the River End - Wyatt crouches down attempting a "frying-pan"-style ramp over her left shoulder, the ball comes off the inside edge but it's safely away for four.

A more orthodox shot, likely to appeal to fans of what my dad calls "proper cricket", is a drive through extra cover for four, while a dab past the keeper takes her to 26. NZ were 57-2 at this stage.

  3. Eng 36-0published at 5 overs

    Target 138

Sophie Devine has often opened the bowling as well as the batting for the White Ferns, she's brought in for the fifth over today and it's a better one for New Zealand - just three singles from it.

They need 102 from 90 balls. For any Sophie Devine fans out there, here's the first six she hit today - and her dismissal by Brunt.

  4. Eng 33-0published at 4 overs

    Wyatt 13 (15 balls), Beaumont 20 (9)

A change of ends for Watkin, but New Zealand look like they need a change of luck - and fast - as Wyatt drills another four past the diving Bates at mid-off, while Beaumont finds the boundary with successive deliveries - reverse-sweeping Watkin through third man, then switching her line of attack by 180 degrees - bashing a four over mid-on.

It's not all doom and gloom for NZ - they were 38-0 at this stage. But if this tri-series has shown anything, it's shown they don't bat as deeply as England do.

You know when Tammy Beaumont plays that shot, she's in good nick.

  6. Eng 19-0published at 3 overs

    Target 138

It looks like New Zealand are following England's theory of one-over spells - as medium-pacer Hayley Jensen takes the third over.

She keeps it pretty tight, but the last ball of the over is too short and Beaumont picks it up and lifts it over square leg for four. (Not literally "picks it up", she would be given out obstructing the field...)

  7. Eng 12-0published at 2 overs

    Wyatt 5, Beaumont 7

In fact, it's off-spin from both ends with Anna Peterson sharing the new ball. And her first ball is met with a careful reverse-paddle by Tammy Beaumont which brings her two. And after an exchange of singles, Beaumont has her first boundary with a powerful lofted drive over mid-on.

  8. Eng 4-0published at 1 over

    Target 138

New Zealand open with the off-spin of Jess Watkin, Wyatt tries a couple of times to hit her over the top and succeeds with a four over wide mid-off.

England's approach with one-over spells has been effective, as it's meant the batters haven't been able to line up the bowlers with these short boundaries.

Amelia Kerr's a fine young player, but she needs to work on her running between the wickets.

New Zealand were in a fine position to get 170, but I don't think 137's enough.

  15. Not outpublished at 20 overs

    NZ 137-9

Sarah Taylor slickly removes the bails, but Tahuhu had made her ground.

England will need to score 138 to win the tri-series.

  16. Third umpirepublished at 20 overs

Kerr hits, Tahuhu runs, and they're checking for another possible run-out at the striker's end...

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 19.5 overs

Jensen run out 9 (NZ 136-9)

Out! A good throw to the non-striker's end, and Lea Tahuhu is going to have to come out for one ball, which she won't face.

  18. Third umpirepublished at 19.5 overs

Another dash back for a second run, Brunt gathers the throw from the deep and the third umpire's verdict is...

  19. NZ 135-8published at 19.4 overs

Jensen and Kerr scurry through for two leg byes, and Jensen moves to nine with a single. Two balls left.

  20. NZ 132-8published at 19.2 overs

140 looks a long way off at the start of the over but Jensen helps an attempted slower ball, which comes out as a hittable full toss, for four backward of square leg.
