  1. NZ 51-1published at 11 overs

This is developing into a dangerous partnership, from England's perspective. Maddy Green whacks Georgia Elwiss over the top for four.

  2. NZ 45-1published at 10 overs

    Target 220

Nice from Sophie Devine - she gets forward and drives Kate Cross through the off side for four. Textbook.

  3. Thorpe's thoughtspublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 13 July 2018

Graham Thorpe, the ECB's national lead batting coach, has been speaking to the press and has had some interesting things to say. Here's his thoughts on playing Kuldeep Yadav, and bear in mind that the ex-England and Surrey left-hander was a wonderful player of spin bowling.

"It’s about looking at it logically in terms of the ability of the guys to genuinely pick him and then work out a method of playing him as well. We came up with some good plans in terms of the T20 stuff. It’s more of the mental side.

"Also it is about being proactive with our movements at the crease as well against him so if you don’t pick him, you’re still in a good position to play him as well."

Good work, young Theo. Get them early!

I saw Theo eating his lunch on the TV earlier. He's my man of the match. Superb support in the crowd.

Back to the cricket, Georgia Elwiss is brought into the attack to rush the batters with some wicket-to-wicket medium pacers. She's quicker than she looks, I reckon.

    Target 220

Want an idea of how bad this series has been for New Zealand? When this partnership passed 28 runs, it became their third best in the series. Twenty eight!

Sophie Devine cracks four through the off side to keep England honest. Time to take some pace off the ball, England?

  7. NZ 27-1published at 7 overs

    Devine 16, Green 6

England's stranglehold on the New Zealand top order is broken by a couple of boundaries. Standby for some quotes from Graham Thorpe, by the way, who has been speaking to the media about the men's team's batting challenges.

  8. NZ 18-1 (target 220)published at 6 overs

Here's that early wicket again. See what I mean about it going down leg? Awful head position though. Get over the ball! Another over, another single chipped from the target.

David Wallace: Amelia Kerr's talent at 17 years is prodigious. - Her bowling is excellent - and to think she beat the ODI batting record of the great Belinda Clark the other day in Dublin makes you wonder where she'll be in (say) 5 years. Watch your back Ellyse Perry!

  10. NZ 17-1published at 5 overs

    Target 220

Another good over from Katherine Brunt: just a single from it. Building pressure.

Kate Cross looks more muscular than the last time I saw her play. She's causing all sorts of problems with a fullish length which naturally take the ball away from the right-hander. There's good aggression too, as she threatens to throw the ball back at the batter who just responds with a smile.

Neil: As one of the sliding and diving middle-aged businessmen playing alongside Charlotte yesterday, I consider the skin from my knees and elbows as a small price to pay for the chance to play at Arundel (with Charlotte to boot). Not to mention the fabulous work done by John Barclay and the Friends of Arundel Cricket Foundation. (Although Charlotte’s description of the events was probably somewhat more realistic than my already-enhanced memory of the game!) Thanks again.

Katherine Brunt kicks the turf in frustration as a fielder lets the ball through her legs and it runs for four.

I won't name the fielder but here's a clue: her first name is similar to the capital of Bulgaria and her second is a combination of two towns - one in Greater Manchester and one in Staffordshire.

Having looked again at that wicket, I think New Zealand are a little unlucky. It looked to be going down leg - and would have been umpire's call if it had gone upstairs.

Kate Cross, back in the team, bowls a nice first over. Good pace and shape. England already doing more with the ball than New Zealand did.

    Watkin lbw b Brunt 0 (NZ 2-1)

    That is seriously good bowling.

Jess Watkin, promoted to the top of the order, looked all at sea in the four balls she faced. Her technique looked poor against the moving ball and when Katherine Brunt worked that out, and adjusted her line, she pinned the apparent walking wicket lbw. Quality cricket from England's quickie.
