Can Worcestershire keep them in sight?

A huge six from the right-hander off Wayne Parnell goes all the way.

Sussex Sharks 27-1 v Worcestershire Rapids

Luke Wood into his second over and his team-mates nearly steal a second run out as Luke Wright is forced to dive back into his ground at the non-striker's end.

Another tidy over from Wood as Human League - Don't You Want Me Baby is the first of what I imagine is going to be a lot of karaoke favourites spun by the stadium DJ in this final.

  8. Six, six and out!published at 19:00 British Summer Time 15 September 2018

Well, before he was inexplicably run out, Phil Salt smashed two sixes in two balls off Wayne Parnell.

Here's his first in case you missed it.....

  9. 'That is criminal'published at 18:57 British Summer Time 15 September 2018

    James Anderson
Lancashire and England fast bowler on BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra

That's criminal, absolutely awful cricket from Phil Salt, it's just so lazy.

He's two feet past the crease line and his foot and bat is in the air.

It's what you get taught, level one coaching when you're batting.

    Salt will be fuming.

  10. Postpublished at 3 overs

Sussex Sharks 24-1 v Worcestershire Rapids

Phil Salt has his head in his hands and his helmet still on in the Sussex dugout to hide his embarrassment.

A shake of the head too from his coach Jason Gillespie, who is sat on the opposite end. Awkward.

Meanwhwile, semi-final hero Patrick Brown bowls his first over for Worcestershire - Laurie Evans opens his account with a pull for four.

    Five off the over.

  11. wicket

WICKET Salt (run out) 17published at 2 overs

Sussex Sharks 19-1 v Worcestershire Rapids

Oh dear Phil Salt, what have you done here?

It's a hammer blow early on in this final and it's come from some really sloppy cricket by Salt.

He saunters a single off the last ball of Parnell's over, doesn't run his bat in and Brett D'Oliveira's direct hit sees him feet in the air, dawdling and he has to go for 17.

    Huge breakthrough for Worcestershire.

  12. 6 runs

Six more from Saltpublished at 1.4 overs

Sussex Sharks 19-0 v Worcestershire Rapids

Next ball from Wayne Parnell - six more from Phil Salt down the ground once again!

    Great start from the right-hander.

  13. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 1.3 overs

Sussex Sharks 13-0 v Worcestershire Rapids

First maximum of the final comes off Wayne Parnell's third ball.

Phil Salt gives himself a bit of room to leg and dispatches Parnell over the rope over long-off.

  14. Postpublished at 1 over

Sussex Sharks 6-0 v Worcestershire Rapids

Tidy start from Luke Wood with his left-arm seamers until Phil Salt tucks into a drive and finds the boundary off the last delivery through the covers.

First over of this final under the belt.

    Ged Scott

The wind's getting up, it's got a lot cooler, the sky's darkening and on a mid-September evening like this one, it's generally the sort of time you'd be leaving the cricket field, looking forward to retiring to the bar to talk about what's happened - not about what's still to come.

On T20 Finals Day you get a bit of both.

A trip round the ground and you see centurions, monks, Smurfs, Batman, Robin Hood, one or two of his Merry Men, half of Abba, Noah and the contents of his Ark, who have long since split up from their respective partners, escaped convicts, American policemen and whatever the collective noun is for nurses.

They're all talking cricket and supping their ale.

And I now know where Wally is. Several of him, in fact!

  17. 'Worcestershire have a real togetherness'published at 18:43 British Summer Time 15 September 2018

    Jack Shantry
Ex-Worcestershire all-rounder on BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra

When Surrey won the County Championship earlier this week, I said that is the start of something for Surrey.

If Worcestershire won this, then it could be the start of something for them in one-day cricket - they have a fantastic young team, not many household names but they've got determination, they swarm around you in the field and they've got a real togetherness.

Pat Brown could be the key man.

  19. Any advantage in playing first?published at 18:41 British Summer Time 15 September 2018

Worcestershire Rapids v Sussex Sharks (18:45 BST)

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

In five of the first six T20 Finals Days, the winners of the second semi-final ended up winning the final.

It was Sussex who stopped that trend when they beat Northants first up on the way to defeating Somerset in the final in 2009.

That began a run of six Finals Days, in which the winners of the first semi-final went on to lift the trophy.

It would stand even at 8-8 if Worcestershire win tonight.

So one of those occasions when the stats tell us nothing.

It's simply the best team on the night that counts for most.

  20. Barnard: Players "put their hands up"published at 18:40 British Summer Time 15 September 2018

Worcestershire beat Lancashire by 20 runs

    Ed BarnardImage source, Rex Features

Worcestershire all rounder Ed Barnard admits that the number of match-winners in their young side was key to their semi-final win over Lancashire.

"Someone always seems to put their hands up," the 22-year-old England Lions man told BBC Sport.

"Halfway through our innings we looked to be staring down the barrel. But then Ben Cox had that one brilliant over, which turned it.

"I really enjoy batting with Coxy, as we complement each other. We had to just stay together to start with before we could start playing a few shots.

"Every time we've had Moeen this season, he's done it for us, with bat and ball. He got that big wicket of Jos Buttler and stopped the flow of runs.

"And I'm so pleased for Pat Brown too. He works so hard for it. For Browny to have the nice things Jimmy Anderson said about him after the week he's just had will mean a lot to to him. He only needs two wickets to break the competition record now, so hopefully he'll go on and do that in the final."
