  4. Notts on top at Trent Bridgepublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 5 September 2018

    Notts 448 v Yorkshire 14-1 - lunch

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Nottinghamshire secured maximum batting points for the first time this season on the second morning of their County Championship match against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge.

Samit Patel, with 54, and Matt Milnes, who scored a career best 43 added 90 for the eighth wicket as Notts totalled 448.

Yorkshire lost Adam Lyth in the first over of their reply and reached lunch on 14-1.

At the start of the day the home side had resumed on 332 for seven and made serene progress towards their 400.

Milnes, growing in confidence, outscored Patel for most of the first hour but then fell to an lbw decision against the leg-spin of Josh Poysden.

Patel pulled the same bowler for six to reach his sixth championship half century of the summer but fell two balls later, hoisting the ball out to deep square leg.

Harry Gurney made 14 before being dismissed by Tim Bresnan, who finished with three for 93. Matthew Waite took three for 91.

Lyth nicked Mark Footitt to gully, where Luke Wood took a sharp reflex catch to send back the Yorkshire captain for a duck.

  5. 'Excellent morning for Glos'published at 12:44 British Summer Time 5 September 2018

    Gloucestershire 296 v Middlesex 3-0 - lunch

    Bob Hunt
    BBC Radio Gloucestershire

An excellent morning from the home side as they added 88 runs to their overnight score.

It all centered around 17-year-old Ben Charlesworth, who was allowed to miss school to make his third championship appearance.

He finished on 77 not out, and with Matt Taylor broke the 10th-wicket record for games against Middlesex. He displayed a rich variety of shots, and reached his maiden half century with a straight six off Dawid Malan.

  6. 'Pitch dominates the talking'published at 12:43 British Summer Time 5 September 2018

    Somerset 192 v Lancashire 99 & 119-7 - lunch

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

The pitch continues to dominate most of the talking in Taunton as Jack Leach picks up his 10th wicket of the game.

Lancashire’s Cricket Director Paul Allott says the pitch is verging on poor, a view not shared by Somerset head coach Jason Kerr who pointed to poor batting.

The truth probably lies somewhere in between. Either way the home side closing on victory, Lancashire still anxiously looking at results elsewhere.
