Can Shanaka punish Hales' drop? He's looked good so far. Tom Curran is returning to the England attack.

Alex Hales' first real impact on this series is disappointing. Dasun Shanaka goes for another big hit but this time gets more height than distance. The ball sails high towards Hales on the deep square leg boundary with the Englishman stood a few metres inside the rope. Hales doesn't look totally sure where the boundary is and the ball slips through his hands above his head.

It goes for six too. Adil Rashid gives a shrug of disappointment.

  3. SL 138-4published at 29 overs

    Shanaka 24, Dhananjaya 10

This pitch is taking some serious turn. Two deliveries from Moeen spin sharply and go down the leg side for wides. It might be tricky for England against the Sri Lankan spinners later. These two batsman are ticking along nicely.

  4. SL 131-4published at 28 overs

    Run rate 4.68

The Sri Lanka fans in the crowd have woken up again after those three boundaries. The band is playing again and the chants can be heard.

Shanaka's full name, by the way, is Madagamagamage Dasun Shanaka. I can't deny I'm pretty happy he doesn't go by all three names.

  5. 6 runs

    SL 129-4published at 27 overs

    Shanaka 21, Dhananjaya 6

Hmmm. Since my big praise of England's spinners a minute ago, they've taken a bit of tap. Dhananjaya de Silva now hits his first boundary, a four through the covers.

Blimey! What have I done?! That's huge. Dasun Shanaka smashes Moeen onto the grassy bank behind the mid-wicket boundary.

    12 from the over.

  6. 6 runs

    SL 116-4published at 26 overs

    Shanaka 14, Dhananjaya 1

Hello! Dasun Shanaka isn't going to just sit in and accept a defeat, however. He clobbers Adil Rashid down the ground for a big six.

Perhaps the middle-order bat is too eager. He almost gets himself run-out at the non-striker's end but Jos Buttler's throw is wayward and he just makes his ground with a dive.

    Thanks Jack.

    Morning all.

England really are good at this one-day cricket malarkey. Sri Lanka were having their best period of this series so far and England's spin twins have put Morgan's side well on top.

Those quick wickets have deadened the atmosphere somewhat. For the first time today the brass band isn't playing, and the Sri Lankan flags aren't flying.

  9. SL 110-4published at 25 overs

    Moeen 8-0-36-2

Dasun Shanaka unfurls a lovely reverse sweep to find the fence and give Sri Lanka some welcome respite after a brutal spell.

England's spinners will continue to put the squeeze on but I'm off for a bit.

For the first time today, the sun is shining in Kandy.

Great atmosphere, great noise - and great relief at the weather.

  11. SL 103-4published at 24 overs

Adil Rashid greets new man Dasun Shanaka with a snorter that fizzes just past the outside edge.

Shanaka survives and gets off the mark with a single. Dhanajaya de Silva is still on nought and Sri Lanka have to start again.

Trouble. Very quickly, Sri Lanka look in the mire.

A leg-break from Adil Rashid skids on and traps Kusal Mendis dead in front.

Big appeal and given straight away. No reviews left for Sri Lanka now but replays show that was cannoning into middle and leg.

    Superb bowling from England's spinners.

  13. SL 102-3published at 23 overs

Dhananjaya de Silva is a very lucky boy.

He skips down the pitch on his first ball and misses it completely.

But Jos Buttler can't gather and misses out on the stumping.

Ball tracking delivers three reds and Niroshan Dickwella has to depart. A good decision from umpire Paul Reiffel.

Moeen Ali pushed it up and got it to straighten from round the wicket. A nice delivery but Dickwella effectively just misses a straight one trying to sweep.

He's struck on the elbow dead in front and that still counts as lbw. Another big breakthrough from Moeen.

  15. Postpublished at 06:51 British Summer Time 20 October 2018

The ball has missed the bat and the gloves and actually struck Dickwella on the elbow. Perhaps he though he got a nick on it.

Elbow is still out of course.

    Here comes ball tracking...

  16. Sri Lanka reviewpublished at 22.5 overs

Moeen Ali has trapped Niroshan Dickwella lbw.

    It's looks very out.

But the Sri Lanka opener sends it upstairs.

  17. SL 100-2published at 22 overs

    Rashid 5-0-18-0

Excellent over from Adil Rashid, probing away and conceding just two singles.

That's the 100 up for Sri Lanka. Good work from the hosts so far on a turning pitch but they'll know England won't be worried about chasing pretty much any target they set.

  18. SL 98-2published at 21 overs

    Dickwella 50, K Mendis 3

Kusal Mendis taps a single off the last ball of Moeen Ali's sixth over.

50 for Dickwellapublished at 20.5 overs

It's not been the ferocious knock of the third ODI but Niroshan Dickwella has accumulated in fine style here today.

Fittingly enough, it's a paddle sweep that brings the single to take him to fifty.

Can he convert? No Sri Lanka batsman has scored an ODI century this year.

  20. SL 92-2published at 20 overs

Sri Lanka continue to be as dependent on a regular sweep as a Victorian chimney,

Conventional, reverse, paddle, lap - you name it, they're playing it.

Rashid concedes just three singles off the over.
