It may well be the footholes that have hampered Mark Wood. He bowls round the wicket first up to the new batsman, left-hander Shimron Hetmyer, and instantly jumps to 93mph.

Of all the ways of getting out, caught cover off a leading edge is not one of them. Wood is having a bit of trouble with the footmarks at this end.

    Hope c Broad b Wood 14 (WI 31-4)

Doesn't matter! It's quick enough to make Shai Hope uncomfortable. After being hit for four, Mark Wood straightens his line and Hope manages to chip the ball off a leading edge to Stuart Broad at cover.

    Six to go for England.

I said the wind might be affecting Mark Wood but it might actually be the footholes on his run up. He aborts at the last minute and turns around and points at a sandy spot near the umpire. Wood bowled one delivery at 95mph on Sunday. He hasn't got over 89mph yet today.

  6. WI 27-3published at 15 overs

    Hope 10, Chase 6

These two have batted sensibly in the last 15 minutes but now Roston Chase pushes at a rising delivery that should be left. Chase gives himself a telling off afterwards. This pair have 15 minutes to survive until lunch.

Big day this for Mark Wood. He bowled so well the other day, but he’s often suffered with a lack of consistency.

Hopefully the relief he got from that fantastic spell of bowling the other day will help his confidence.

He said in the interview on the Test Match Special podcast that he finally felt he belonged as an England Test cricketer after that five-for, so it will be interesting to see how he backs that up.

He’s started well with a couple of quick bouncers then forcing that false shot from Hope. Important day for him.

England need seven wickets to win

This strong wind might prevent Mark Wood reaching the serious pace of day two. It can't be helping his run-up.

Wood is moving the ball off the pitch as well as bowling quick. He whistles one past Hope's edge but the West Indies number three corrects a ball later and drives for four.

That hat blew about 25, 30 yards towards mid-off.

Now you don't see this very often. Just as Ben Stokes starts his delivery stride, umpire Rod Tucker's hat bowls off his head, nearly hitting Stokes but Roston Chase doesn't pull away.

It was probably too late for him to pull out. Luckily it didn't distract him from a solid forward defensive.

Pace does things to your head. Shai Hope has to jump out of the way of a fierce bouncer and then chases a full, wide delivery.

Wood tumbles to the floor but throws his arm up in disappointment.

None of those deliveries were over 90mph, disappointingly. There's still time.

Donald Jones‏: Not quite counting my chickens but England's biggest victory over the West indies in terms of runs is by 256 runs. Twice. Port of Spain in 1960 and at Edgbaston in Jul 2004. The Aussies beat them by 382 in Sydney in 1969, but that's probably hoping for too much
