Love to see a batsman get set up like that. Perfect googly to scramble the mind, then a brilliant leg-break payoff ball. Superb from Rashid.

  2. WI 114-2published at 24 overs

A wide is the only real error from Ben Stokes, as Shai Hope and Darren Bravo drop a few singles here and there.

Hope and Bravo have just pinched a single that they never would have got had Gayle still been at the crease at either end.

  4. WI 109-2published at 23 overs

    Rashid 3-0-12-1

Excellent awareness from Bravo and Hope as Bravo drops the ball just in front of a swooping Morgan at point and calls Hope through for a quick single.

Rashid responds with a delivery that finds some extra bounce and Hope gets into a tangle as he tries to get his hand and bat out of harm's way.

    Four!

Shai Hope gets on one knee and launches Adil Rashid's leg-break over mid-wicket and away for a one bounce four.

  6. WI 103-2published at 22 overs

Darren Bravo goes for a big yahoo down to long-on, but Tom Curran comes tearing around to stop the ball going into the boundary rope. Bravo will have to settle for two.

England are really quite good at this one-day lark, aren't they? Stokes spears down a few cutters and slower balls to keep West Indies batsmen quiet.

I wonder what Shai Hope at the other end is thinking. Running between the wickets with Gayle is a very different prospect to doing it with almost anyone else. He deals in ones, fours and sixes.

  8. WI 100-2published at 21 overs

Darren Bravo and his cap have come out at number four.

He whips a sneaky single straight away. I wonder if we'll see the tempo going up a bit now Gayle has gone. That's an excellent over from Rashid, costing just two runs and the wicket of Gayle.

Rashid snuffs out Gayle in his second over. Morgan held him back on Wednesday - I wonder if that was the right thing to do. Gayle looked uncomfortable against Rashid today, and it's paid off.

    Gayle b Rashid 50 (WI 98-2)

    Gone!

Adil Rashid beats Chris Gayle with a googly first up, and then castles him with the next delivery. This is a lovely ball, Rashid putting some extra revs behind his leg-break and Gayle misses it by a mile. He's aiming over long-on, going for another big six, and he ends up having his stumps rearranged.

Ben Stokes whistles down a short ball to keep Shai Hope on strike.

Loose from Chris Gayle, a flat-footed prod at Ben Stokes tonking the ball up in the air, but there's no fielder close enough to snaffle the catch at third man.

A leisurely single brings up another half-century for the self-styled Universe Boss. This one has come from 61 balls, with one four and four sixes.

    Gayle 48, Hope 15

Chris Gayle has a swipe at Adil Rashid's second ball, and misses it by about half a yard.

Shai Hope has finally convinced Gayle to take a few extra singles here and there, and they nurdle four runs off Rashid.

    Adil Rashid is coming on!

He wasn't brought into the attack until the 34th over the other day.

The groundstaff have brought out what I can only describe as a concrete slab with a handle on it to bash some extra sawdust into the bowler's footmarks.

I would very much like one of those the next time I'm doing any building in my house.

Something I've never seen before at a ground - after each appeal, a DRS timer comes on the big screen to count to 15 seconds - the time within which a team must make a review.

An ugly sort of hoick from Shai Hope brings him a single as the ball swirls down towards the third man boundary, and West Indies will have to settle for just two runs from the over.

Richard Locke: I really don’t think the rest of this WI team like batting with Chris Gayle. Yes he can hit hundreds but they miss out on simple runs. Runs that could win/lose a tight game. Look at Shai Hope’s reaction!
