Well England never make it easy. That ended up being a bit of a thriller. Perhaps not the way Eoin Morgan wanted to start the international summer, but a win in the end.

Ireland impressed and it was especially heartening to see several young players coming to the fore. It will be intriguing to see how they go against West Indies and Bangladesh this month.

England captain Eoin Morgan: "I knew it would be challenging at stages but the bowlers did a great job. Three or four of us batted poorly but Ben Foakes batted superbly on debut and he and Tom Curran got us over the line.

"We found a way to win today, which is nice.

"Jofra Archer started well. Debuts can be a write-off and it's difficult to tell but all the bowlers managed to get some overs in and blow the cobwebs away."

More from Porterfield on Josh Little, who took 4-45 on debut: "He has great potential. He settled in and was able to do what he does.

"All credit to him and all the young lads that have played today have a bright future.

"This is a big month for us with seven ODIs in the next 15-20 days. It's good to be together for that length of time and playing games."

Ireland captain William Porterfield, speaking at the presenation: "We could've got a few more. There were tricky conditions in the morning but we wanted another partnership to free the guys up in the back end.

"But I can't fault the fight of my team. We had three debutants and none of them looked out of place."

England's Ben Foakes: "They were tricky conditions - it was nipping about a bit - so with their bowlers we had to stick in and take what was on offer.

"Because we bowled so well and restricted them to less than 200, the run-rate never got beyond us."

Elsewhere, Dawid Malan was severely hampered by an injury that meant his innings never got going and he couldn't run on debut.

James Vince played a few pretty shots, but couldn't rotate the strike and fell cheaply. (You've heard that before, haven't you?)

Jofra Archer was slightly loose in his first spell but came back to rev it up to 90mph with ease, claiming his first England wicket with a snorting yorker.

In fact, all of England's pace bowlers looked in decent touch, Liam Plunkett standing out with 4-35. Adil Rashid was also excellent, with 1-27 off his nine overs.

If everyone stays fit, Ben Foakes probably won't play in the World Cup.

But England have at least made sure that the Surrey keeper bats is just as calm and mature a manner as he does in Tests.

And that's a big game for Tom Curran - bowling very well to pick up three wickets and hitting his highest ODI score with 47 not out.

That was incredibly tense, until the last few overs where Ireland seemed to run out of ideas and momentum.

All credit to Ben Foakes and Tom Curran for doing that to the hosts as well.

How much will William Porterfield rue that review confusion? Tim Murtagh should've had Foakes out lbw.

Ireland have got a lot of positives to take out of this - the performance of their young players.

For England, they have given a debut to Jofra Archer and Ben Foakes, who kept well and steered his side to victory with the bat.

England don't even need another legal delivery to get it done.

Josh Little oversteps to concede a no-ball, it's banged in halfway down and Tom Curran swivels it away through mid-wicket to the fence.

Five runs in total and that complete a very nervy four-wicket win for the visitors.

Ireland will be gutted. They looked on course for a first win over England on home soil, but Ben Foakes and Curran have done a superb salvage job.

Mark Adair gets it up in the blockhole and Tom Curran fends it down the ground for one.

A tremendous partnership from these two Surrey players to bail England out of serious trouble.
