Foakes is only the fifth England player to score a half-century on his ODI debut since Ian Bell did so in November 2004 - the others being Luke Wright, Joe Denly, Michael Lumb and Ben Duckett.

Right. Remember that Tim Murtagh lbw appeal against Ben Foakes that wasn't given?

And replays showed it would've been overturned on review.

It appeared Ireland didn't review because they had used all their reviews.

In fact, we think they have got it wrong and actually have a review left. They didn't use a review to check that Gary Wilson catch - the umpires themselves sent it upstairs.

Perhaps they just thought it was going down leg but they seemed to not even consider a review, indicating they thought they had none left.

England ticking along nicely at the right moment - eight from the over.

  6. 50 runs

50 for Foakespublished at 39.5 overs

Mr Unflappable slices out to the deep for a single.

That's a fine fifty on debut for Ben Foakes.

He bats through to the end, England win.

  7. Eng 172-6published at 39.3 overs

Can't be doing that. Ireland are too keen on the run out and an unnecessary shy at the stumps gives England an extra run on the overthrows.

  9. Eng 167-6published at 39 overs

    Need 32 from 36 balls

Tom Curran picks up a single to end a vital over for England, 12 from it.

    This partnership is worth 66.

  10. Eng 166-6published at 38.5 overs

Boos ring out at Malahide as Josh Little goes for the bouncer and is called wide on height. Marginal one that.

More displeasure for the Ireland fans as Tom Curran wallops it back down the ground for four. He was aiming through point but the bat turned in his hands.

    England will take it.

  11. Eng 160-6published at 38.3 overs

    A huge boundary for England.

Josh Little bangs it in but the ball sits up and Ben Foakes swivels on it quickly to pull behind square for four. Great shot.

Oh dear. Mark Adair gets a slower ball all wrong down leg side to concede a wide.

But he follows up by beating the bat as Tom Curran slashes wildly outside off.

Curran the flicks the last to deep square leg for a single. Just three from the over.

Time is on England's side - they just needed a partnership and these two Surrey boys have provided it.

Good stride from Tom Curran as he drives out to deep point for a single.

Yeesh. Ben Foakes then inside edges one down to fine leg for one more.

Two dot balls to finish for Tim Murtagh, who ends with excellent figures of 9-1-29-1.

So who does William Porterfield turn to now to make the breakthrough?

    Tim Murtagh's last over.

Tom Curran is playing well - he had a good winter in the Big Bash. He got a lot of wickets for the Sydney Sixers and scored some crucial runs too.

George Dockrell, into his final over, draws a loose bunt out of Tom Curran, before the England batsman works a couple through the leg side.

Ben Foakes dances down the pitch and whirls his wrists to add another two runs to England's total.
