Jofra Archer has a fluid, rhythmical action. He's shy but confident. I don't think he's going to be too fazed by being around the international set-up. Eoin Morgan wanted him in there - and he's got him.

Two of England's debutants Jofra Archer and Dawid Malan enjoyed their game of football yesterday. What do we reckon? Back-to-goal striker and ball-playing defender?

Ben Foakes will also make his ODI debut today.

Add in Jason Roy's injury problems and suddenly England are facing plenty of issues to overcome before the World Cup starts on 30 May.

But they have an opportunity to remind everyone of their impressive abilities against Ireland today. Weather permitting of course...

...and then the Alex Hales case.

What started as a curious break for "personal reasons" has snowballed into a crisis.

The Notts opener is out of the World Cup squad after what Eoin Morgan called a "complete breakdown in trust", with senior players endorsing the decision to drop him.

Director of cricket Ashley Giles has admitted that if the Guardian had not reported Hales was serving a 21-day ban for recreational drug use, he would still be in the World Cup squad.

All very unedifying and very sad.

It's not raining in Malahide but a wet outfield is the reason for the delay.

Hopefully things dry up soon enough.

Where were we? Oh, yes, England's inauspicious 2019 so far...

Then, there was the approaching question of Jofra Archer after his qualification. Whatever you make of their comments, it seemed that several future England team-mates were uneasy about his inclusion.

And sadly Archer likely felt that unease, saying he "didn't want to step on any toes" as he looks to break into England's final World Cup squad.

Perhaps we will see Archer crush some toes with his devastating yorker when he makes his England debut against Ireland at Malahide today...

    Well. England gonna England.

First, there was a drawn series against West Indies, perhaps not the worst result in the world, but still dispiriting given England were bowled out for just 113 in the final match. Morgan's side still haven't shed their propensity for random, violent batting collapses on tricky pitches.

Remember the end of 2018? When England had made just over three and a half years of mostly serene progress in their overdue radical overhaul of the ODI side?

OK, there was Bristol and the resulting fallout, but Eoin Morgan's side were back on track, united and in dominant form.

Just six months to go until a World Cup on home soil. What could go wrong?
