It has been a proper Test hundred from Burns. He has fought hard. It is terrific. It shows what you can do in a week since the Ireland Test.

Burns has been very patient and his hundred is very deserved.

Been a big fan of Burns for years! Just surprised it took the England selectors so long to look beyond the odd technique and focus on the volume of runs he has scored.

Rory Burns plays and misses with a big drive at one angled across by Peter Siddle. No need for that.

That's better, tucking off his pads for a single.

Chris Watson: Well batted Rory Burns. Tremendously gritty innings, fought hard, stayed focused and ground it out. Off the back of a dreadful performance against Ireland and lots of scathing criticism, that is an extra special knock.

Andrew Bevan: My wife wants to call our unborn child Rory (if it's a boy), I went to school with an idiot called Rory so vetoed it.... Rory is back on the table!!!

Ben Stokes is going to have to really dig deep against Nathan Lyon, who is causing the left-hander problems. Stokes rocks back and toe-edges a cut shot just over and wide of second slip. It runs away for a streaky four.

He does have a slightly strange lid, does Rory Burns. There is one shaved section near the front that looks odd when the side bit is swept over.

He could have the Ronaldo divot for all England fans care right now, mind.

Rory Burns deserves a breather after spending so many deliveries on 99.

Excellent concentration to defy the nerves and get over the line.

He's led Surrey to a County Championship title with fine resilience and will draw on that here to try and see out the day.

Andy: Yesss Rory Burns!!! Rode your luck but very well deserved 100. Make it a daddy hundred.

Kieran: Well played lad! Make it a maiden double now!

Ian B: True to form the umpire spoils Burns moment by asking for the third umpire to check an absolutely certain run, pitiful.

Burns' hundred came in 319 minutes, from 224 balls with 14 fours. He was in the nineties for 54 minutes.

Since Adam Lyth scored a hundred in 2015, England have had 15 opening batsmen. Alastair Cook scored six hundreds, Keaton Jennings two and Rory Burns is the only other one who has got a hundred.
