Down the pitch charges Steve Smith, and he lofts Jack Leach over long-off for six!

That's the 400 up, and Smith is on to 197. Is this what the nineties were like?

The party stand is that in name only. For two days, its boisterousness has been cut by the weather, England's struggles and Steve Smith. It's more of a wake than a party, albeit one with inflatables, Morris dancers, bananas and cows. As if the Easter bunny had died...

Starc went quite hard at that but it landed well short of Stokes.

  5. Aus 399-7published at 112 overs

An edge from Mitchell Starc, but it's just short of Ben Stokes at second slip! Oh, it's done some damage to Stokes' finger in the process.

Starc's response is a thudding straight drive that gets blasted past Overton's outstretched left arm and go tearing away for four. What a shot!

Why is it that when bowlers finish their over they put their caps and sunglasses on first then pull their sweaters over them. Wrong way surely? If you don't get the basics right...

It's been an entertaining hour or so...

  8. Aus 395-7published at 111 overs

    Smith 191, Starc 2

I don't understand this field for Jack Leach. It's pushed so far back that it is way too easy for Mitchell Starc to work a single and get himself off strike.

Oh! Steve Smith gets beaten by consecutive deliveries from Leach, first trying to cut, then a slower delivery sliding past his bat as he presses forward. Miracles do happen.

Luke Berry: Steve Smith has been at the crease so long in this series I think he is eligible to play for England.

The watermelon beach ball is back in the party stand. It's getting some of the biggest cheers of the day.

  11. Aus 394-7published at 110 overs

Oh! England's tactic to bore Steve Smith out almost works!

He stretches to meet a very wide Overton delivery and almost nicks it through to Jonny Bairstow.

Nathan Lyon is sat in the dressing room with his helmet on. Feels a bit village to me.

  13. Aus 393-7published at 109 overs

    Starc 1, Smith 191

Mitch Starc facing spin could go one of two ways: violently or badly.

As it stands, he pushes leisurely back down the ground to get Steve Smith back on strike and the two work a smattering of singles here and there.

Without Smith and Stokes there would no runs!!!

  15. Aus 391-7published at 108 overs

Steve Smith gesticulates furiously at where he wanted to send this straight drive, rather than where it has ended up, which is underneath Craig Overton's boot.

  16. Aus 391-7published at 107.3 overs

    Dismissive!

Steve Smith eyes up a Craig Overton short ball, leans back and cracks it wide of mid-on for four. Lovely stuff.

Not a bad start after tea...

  18. Aus 387-7published at 107 overs

    Smith 186, Starc 0

Mitch Starc is so tall that it's like he's come out with a toy bat in his hand.

He promptly blocks and drives his way through a Jack Leach maiden.

  19. Aus 387-7published at 106 overs

Steve Smith twitches and jerks around and does his lightsaber leave, but the result is a maiden. He has a furious swipe at fresh air as he misses out on working a single from the last ball of the over and sparing Mitch Starc from the strike.

He is, genuinely, fascinating to watch.

Do you know who the bravest man at every Test is? The cameraman who has to follow every dismissed batsman off the field, the lens only a couple of the feet from the nostrils. How has the camera never been smashed with the swing of angry willow?
