Jonny Bairstow leapt and stretched and it was just wide of him!
Close again.
Smith gloves one down the leg side but Bairstow can't get across. It was a good effort from the England keeper. You can't call it a chance.
Just more frustration for England. Four more runs for Australia.
Back to that TV talent show idea from Dan. Who plays the Louis Walsh role?
Smith 162, Paine 49
"CAAAAATCH"
No!
Steve Smith gets a top edge on a pull but Jack Leach has to abort the attempts for a catch early. It was never going to carry. A bit of hope again at least.

How about a TV talent show called 'Catch Me If You Can'... Kinda like How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria. Members of the public compete to find the best way to get Steve Smith out and the winner gets to go out there and get the job done. Somebody give Simon Cowell a ring now..

Back to the action...
Craig Overton's miserable spell continues as he is driven for four more by Smith. The fielders hardly even bother moving before mid-on drags himself down to the boundary to collect the ball.
Can you remember a worse session for England?
Glenn McGrath
Ex-Australia bowler on BBC Test Match Special
Ben Stokes has had a bit of soreness in his right shoulder. He's had a truckload of work this series.
Ben Stokes is back on the field! Some good news for England. The word is he has soreness in his right shoulder.
Archer continues with the short ball tactic to Tim Paine but that horse has not only bolted but run halfway to the Pennines.
England got Paine to play the loose pull shot they were after in the last over but dropped the catch.

It's the eighth time Steve Smith has got to 150 in Test cricket. He's got two double hundreds - one at Lord's and one at Perth.
I can't cope with Glenn McGrath cheeriness on TMS right now...
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
Steve Smith is human - he got a semi-bad ball and didn't find the gap!
There's a very encouraging black cloud looming over The Point.

England have had some pretty bad sessions with the bat lately. 67 all out at Headingley, 85 all out v Ireland at Lord's. When was the last time so many things went wrong when they were in the field?
Four more to Smith off Overton...

For a brief moment, England seemed to be on to something with Smith. Broad and Overton were holding the channel outside the off stump. His scoring dried up. The patience game was on. England cracked before Smith did. Stokes replaced Broad and couldn't repeat the job, then got injured. Then Overton lost his line. Now the plan is out of the window and England look bereft.
It was a mishit pull shot from Paine that went to Curran at mid-on. It was hit quite hard but straight at the Surrey all-rounder at knee height. Has to be taken.

Australia are playing remorselessly.
