There's a bloke right at the top of the party stand who has taken his shirt off. Put some clothes on, sir, it's freezing!

The two exchange singles, which takes Joe Root to 49.

That was an absolute peach - the perfect off-break apart from it didn't take the edge.

    Trail by 366

Nathan Lyon rips a beauty past Rory Burns' outside edge. Not that anyone is paying any attention. They're still laughing at him dropping the ball.

I don't think this amuses Lyon a great deal.

  5. Eng 131-2published at 49.4 overs

A little nervy for Joe Root as Nathan Lyon drifts a delivery into his pads before a fine little dab allows him to pick up a single.

The crowd are still cheering Lyon whenever he catches the ball. Oh, and he's dropped it! Lyon is absolutely fuming! The crowd go wild. Amazing.

    Burns 67, Root 47

Rory Burns weaves and ducks under a short ball before he lets some teasing deliveries go sliding past his off stump.

Oh! A beauty from Pat Cummins, beating Burns all ends up, and it goes flying through to Tim Paine behind the stumps. Cummins has bowled so well today.

    Shot!

Too short, a bit quicker, and Rory Burns hops backs and cuts Nathan Lyon away for four. Lovely.

A solid defensive prod from Rory Burns first up.

Nathan Lyon is still getting an ovation whenever he fields the ball, which I'm sure will do loads to lift his spirits.

Wickets can fall in a clatter. England won't be complacent in the dressing room. They will want this pair to get in again.

Play can - and probably will - go on until 19:30 BST tonight.

What I'm saying is, settle yourselves in for a long one. Nathan Lyon will get us going after tea.

No one in this Test is having as miserable a time of it as Hamish Rutherford. The Worcestershire batsman was recalled by New Zealand for the final Twenty20 in Sri Lanka and has just fallen for a duck in that Malinga spell. All that way.

Meanwhile, Lasith Malinga, in his T20 swansong, has just taken four wickets in four balls for the second time in his career.

    Astonishing.
