No problem with the way Jos Buttler was playing. And cricket judgements are always fickle, coming down to the execution so many times.

But the issue was that wasn't the ideal ball or bowler to try to launch, especially when there was the option of trying to take on Mitch Marsh's 83mph length deliveries at the other end.

I'm sick of this English attitude of praising and encouraging players to play aggressive and we love it when 6s are hit to all parts. Yet we jump on players backs when they're dismissed for playing that way. You can't have it both ways!!

Not the best first over from Stuart Broad. Far too wide.

England have got 30 overs with the new ball to make inroads into the Australia batting line-up. They have a lot of fragility apart from one player.

I look at these conditions and they are perfect for batting.

England should have been batting this session and the afternoon. They missed an opportunity but because of the fragility of the Australia batting line-up they have a chance.

  5. Aus 1-0published at 0.3 overs

Stuart Broad angles one in at David Warner's toes and the Aussie opener gets off the mark, pushing into the covers for a single.

That is an indication that Warner is going to try and hit himself back into form.

That was nearly off the cut strip and Warner tried to launch it.

  8. Aus 0-0published at 0.2 overs

Stuart Broad sends down a very wide outswinger that David Warner chases and is very lucky not to nick behind.

Broad gives him a look that says, "Both of us would be embarrassed if you'd have nicked that."

    Right.

    Broad to Warner.

    Here we go.

    How the fun ended.

So England could really do with Stuart Broad dismissing David Warner cheaply, as per.

And Jofra Archer bowling absolute fire.

Joe Root gathers his side in for a huddle as Aussie openers Warner and Marcus Harris inspect the pitch.

Big welcome from the Aussies for Mitch Marsh, who also got a big handshake from Steve Waugh.

Mitch Marsh now has two Ashes centuries and a five-for. Hands up who saw that coming? You can tell how popular Marsh is within the team by the way everyone ran up to him as he celebrates. It sounds like a cliche, but Marsh is a man who just loves playing for Australia; he said yesterday being called back into the side was like being a kid at Christmas.

He's worked really hard over the past year on both his fitness and with Western Australia's sports psychologist to try and get himself and his game into a better place after being dropped in 2018.

Matt Barron: England last 25 minutes and don't make 300. Too easy for Australia once again.

Chris Brown: Mitch Marsh got 5 wickets... we don’t deserve the Ashes.

Junaid Rahim: A hundred runs under-par I reckon. Poor.

What a way to come back into the team? It was a little unfortunate for Leach. Australia will be delighted with Marsh's contribution.

Leach b Marsh 21 (Eng 294 all out)

We now live in a world where Mitchell Marsh has a Test five-for. And he really deserves it.

The big all-rounder curves in another testing in-swinger and Jack Leach can only pat it down and back onto his stumps.

Marsh wheels away in delight once more and is mobbed by his team-mates before leading them off the pitch.

Australia on top. England couldn't even reach 300 on what looks like the best batting surface of the summer.

Oliver Tapper: Why is Buttler playing that shot?

Michael Champion: Perhaps was frustrated into a rash stroke by the fact that Leach was outscoring him!

Jack Leach was hanging in for Buttler. Buttler could have been selective. If you are going to go after someone, don't go after Pat Cummins the number one bowler in the world.
