Fred George: Favourite moment of the summer has to be Lyon missing the stumping. Niiiiiiiccceee Garrrryy! (Best battle of the series is Broad dominating Warner - love to see it)

    Smith 23, Wade 17

And after one false shot Steve Smith clips the ball away for four. Stuart Broad looks utterly bemused. "How has Smith hit that there?" is what he's wondering. It was a remarkable shot. I'm not sure what to call it.

Yep. The ball-tracking shows that appeal didn't have a lot going for it.

It was too high and fractionally outside the line too.

  6. Aus 77-3published at 24.3 overs

Steve Smith has missed one! A big appeal from Stuart Broad. He pleads for Marais Erasmus to give it but I think Smith has got himself outside the line.

Tom: Highlight of the summer is Eoin Morgan’s innings v Afghanistan. Those 17 sixes - wow.

    Target 399

You wouldn't think England will blow away this Aussie line-up this afternoon. It's not that kind of pitch. Woakes is plugging away but there isn't a lot there for him.

Who else has got goosebumps watching that clip again?

I think it took a month, including a 10-day holiday, for my heart to calm down after that day.

Nick Williams: The moment Buttler removed the stumps in the World Cup final - the relief, the joy, it was unmatched.

  12. Aus 76-3published at 23 overs

    Smith 18, Wade 17

There is a bit of movement out of the hand for Broad despite the bright blue skies above. It tucks Steve Smith up a little as he is hit on the thigh pad by an inswinger but it's way too high for an lbw appeal.

To avoid the disappointment of the "was it Smith?" question whenever Australia lose a wicket, we should now refer to his wicket as a "smicket".

That's a good shot from Wade. Stuart Broad is round the wicket as ever to the lefties but Wade gets on the back foot and chops the ball through backward point on the off side. Four runs.

Broad has 2-23 so far and now he has another left-hander in Matthew Wade in his sights...

I reckon four Australian players actually deserve to retain the Ashes: Smith (obvs), Labuschagne, Cummins and Hazlewood. The rest have turned up for the odd cameo but no more. Sadly fewer English players deserved to regain! I’d say they won 4-3.

  19. Aus 68-3published at 22 overs

These are not Woakes' favoured conditions and the surface isn't really one he'd fancy either. There is too much but Steve Smith is waving a glove around to suggest Woakes is finding a little bit of movement away.

    A maiden to start.

  20. Aus 63-3published at 21 overs

    Target 399

Chris Woakes hasn't bowled yet in this innings but he's going to start after lunch.

He is England's chief Steve Smith destroyer, just only after the Australia has racked up a ton.
