  1. 50 runs

50 for Hashmatullahpublished at 37.3 overs

Shot! New Zealand bring the fielders in and Hashmatullah swats the ball through long on for four. Fifty, celebrated jubilantly in the stands, off 84 balls.

Rashid was hurt by that bouncer which got him out but he was fine in the end.

Well run, a quick single to end the over and keep Hashmatullah on strike. He needs four for his 50.

I've never been to Taunton but the arty shots the TV coverage are using are painting it in a very nice light. Looks lovely.

Hashmatullah gets into the game, a real hoik at a fast ball which nearly ends up with him being caught but instead lands safe and spins away for four.

  7. Afg 153-9published at 36 overs

Hamid Hassan is the new batsman, he averages seven. And he gets four of those first ball up, just a defensive prod really and the pace of Lockie Ferguson sees him push it all the way to the fence!

That brings up the 150. And he then mistimes a pull for a few more.

    WICKETpublished at 35.4 overs

    Aftab c Latham b Ferguson 14 (Afg 147-9)

    Booooooo.

Aftab Alam was here for a good time, not a long time. He clubs another shot sky high, this time he doesn't get away with it though as wicketkeeper Tom Latham is able to run to his right and cling on to the ball.

It was the same thing again. Clear the leg and just smash it anywhere.

The crowd love it. I love it.

  11. Afg 147-8published at 35.3 overs

    Aftab 14, Hashmatullah 41

Me too. All a bit Devon Malcolm.

Aftab now baseball swings a fast straight ball from Lockie Ferguson to the fence for another four. He then top edges another one for a one-bounce four!

    Smash it anywhere.

I am very much enjoying Aftab Alam's approach to this game.

Earlier in this tournament, cricket journalist Jarrod Kimber who has been following Afghanistan's rise to Test status very closely in recent years, described them as "a team of number eights".

Well, Jarrod might well be revising that down a couple of places after seeing some of the shot selection in recent overs.

It's brave and gutsy, but sadly very naive at the same time. Again, they look like they'll fall well short of batting out their allotted 50 overs.

That was a horrible shot. It was a flap more than anything.

There will be quite a few shots played like that on village greens around the UK today.

  15. Afg 139-8published at 35 overs

Fine yorker from Trent Boult, fast and inswinging but Hashmatullah jabs down and digs it out. Aftab, by far the most entertaining man to watch so far, then tries to smash Boult into Yeovil but gets nowhere near it.

  16. Afg 137-8published at 34.3 overs

Trent Boult gets the ball back, he'll want some tail-end wickets to his name. He has a slip and fizzes a bouncer past Aftab.

Hashmatullah could end up stranded short of his 50. He's on 40 at the moment.

I think Lockie Ferguson has passed on a few thoughts after that stroke. It was agricultural to say the least.

  18. Afg 135-8published at 34 overs

Aftab Alam is the new batsman - and that's the shot of the day! Straight and fast ball, he just clears some room by stepping to leg and spanks a shot away for four.

    Fine shot!

I'm not sure about the footwork and he may not be around for long, but that was ace.
