    A shocker.

    You cannot miss these chances.

Aaron Finch plays a woeful waft with no foot movement and the ball goes straight to Asif Ali at first slip. It travels quickly but bursts through Asif's hands at shoulder height and goes for four.

Pakistan have let this slip. Amir was unplayable from one end but then Shaheen wasted it from the other.

Surely these things should be done by video call at least these days?

It's not swinging as much. Warner is looking positive in running his singles.

A fellow teacher once settled a rain-cancelled school cup fixture with the toss of a coin. He called and lost, which was no surprise as it took place over the phone.

Shaheen Afridi is back after his wretched early spell of two overs for 24.

The Pakistan fans cheer good work in the deep from Imam-al-Haq but that tells you runs are coming. Pakistan have a more defensive field and Australia are able to run a couple of easy twos.

Aaron Finch and David Warner are laying a platform and looking a little dangerous.

Why do Pakistan produce so many left-armers? They've got Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir and Shaheen Afridi in this team.

My colleague Jack Skelton asks whether it is because Urdu is written right to left, thus making it easier to be left-handed.

Any other suggestions? Can any experts out there help us?

Warner was not in control of that and blames his tools, looking down at the edge of his bat and the turf.

  9. Aus 56-0published at 10.1 overs

Almost the commentator's curse from me. Back of a length from Wahab and the ball skews in the air off David Warner's edge. Luckily for the Australian opener it falls safely. Could have gone anywhere.

Just down the road, Bristol is smarting from two washouts but, even though the grey clouds threaten, this feels like Taunton are having a win. It's the intimacy that does it. Players so close to the spectators, especially when they return to the dressing rooms. Vantage points, too. The flats, the church. The only, inevitable question - why isn't it full?

  11. Aus 56-0published at 10 overs

10 overs gone. Australia will certainly be the happier. There would have been fears of losing two or three wickets in these conditions but Finch and Warner are batting well.

Make it a 'rain match' where rain is guaranteed for both sides throughout and they play on. Use a Hollywood rain machine for fairness if it stops actually raining.

Sarfaraz grumpily stands with his hands on his hips and shakes his head. He's not impressed that Hassan Ali has bowled another on Warner's pads. This one flicks the body and goes for four leg byes.

You don't need to go to clever slower balls, bouncers and yorkers yet - there is enough movement there but Pakistan just haven't bowled enough in the right areas.

  15. Aus 49-0published at 9 overs

It's really dark at the ground. Without the floodlights we might be struggling to play this game. The sun is nowhere to be seen but despite the gloom it is still dry.

David Warner has been much more positive today. He pushes to mid-off and sets off for a run almost instantly.

Wahab gives Finch a little stare after beating him to end the over.

Sarfaraz is going to be worried. There was an opportunity for early wickets here but it looks to be slipping away.

  19. Aus 47-0published at 8 overs

This is now turning into a good start for Australia. David Warner gets one through the infield, a little up-ish but pretty safe.

11 come from Hassan's second over, having only leaked one run from his first.

    Australia's run rate is 5.87.

The length wasn't the problem there but the line was - too much width and Aaron Finch hit it very well.
