England captain Eoin Morgan speaking to TMS: "Our plans remain the same throughout, the personnel changes a bit but the plans stay the same. If guys are executing better than the others you leave guys out, it's part and parcel of the World Cup.

"Joe Root has had an absolute day out with two wickets and a 100. When he does that it's gerat value for anyone who bought a ticket."

More from Joe Root: "We spent two days in the indoor centre and there was plenty of work against short stuff done. We didn't know they would go with it in this game but we were prepared and backed ourselves to deliver under pressure.

"I've been trying a few things with my bowling, you have to when you don't have skills like the other. It's still a work in progress - you saw those five wides as well, but nice to get some wickets today."

More from Jason Holder: "We didn't get the short balls high enough and our bowling was erratic at times. But when you've got only 213 to defend you need to hunt wickets.

"We have to look at our injury situation. We've been carrying some niggles in the dressing room. We've got another crucial game against Bangladesh coming up and we need to get fit.

"There is no point looking back, we just have to control the future. We have to tighten up in all departments."

England captain Eoin Morgan on TMS: "I'm a bit stiff and sore, had a bit of a back spasm which hasn't settled down yet. I get them two or three times a year and unfortunately it's come now, hopefully it settles down in the next 48 hours. Jason Roy had a stiff hammy but hopefully we don't present serious injuries.

"Rotation will be dependent on how everyone is feeling, we'll do a risk assessment. Ultimately we want to win as many games as quickly as possible to guarantee qualification.

"We won't take anyone lightly and we will play our strongest XI if all are fit."

A hamstring takes time. Roy will be getting the best care to get him back but I wouldn't imagine there'd be any chance of risking him against Afghanistan.

West Indies captain Jason Holder: "We didn't put enough runs on the board. There were a few careless shots, if we had hung in a bit longer we could've gone deeper and got some more in the end.

"The toss was crucial but we did a reasonable job getting through the powerplay. But we need more ownership in the middle, form a few more partnerships and go deeper.

"Batters got out at crucial stages, we need to correct it. It's happened twice in two games now."

England have stumbled across a team of five seamers and Joe Root bowling spin - I wonder if Moeen will find a way back into this team.

England all-rounder Chris Woakes on TMS: "I scored runs at three but I'm not too sure about that [keeping the place]! I enjoyed it, really enjoyed it. I got the tap on the shoulder at the break and I was delighted to take it on.

"There was the odd whisper of me opening but that got shot down pretty quick! I would have taken it on, 100%. We joke with the batters that opening is the best job so I would have gone for it.

"We looked at this fixture as a tough one, we know the West Indies are dangerous with bat in hand, it was important that we started well and it was important to win the toss."

When you've got someone like Jofra Archer getting chest-high bounce to a ball that you would go forwards to, it comes out of his hands at 90mph with no effort at all.

It's a confident team, England have all the ingredients.

England batsman Joe Root: "It's obviously nice for this hundred to mean something and for us to win. It was a great toss to win and important we followed through on that.

"You pride yourself on working it out as a batsman, building big partnerships either when setting or closing down a chase like we did today.

"It was nice to get some time in the powerplay, have the fielders up and hit the gaps. There's not much difference to batting at three and it's so good when you have players like Jonny Bairstow, Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, Jos Buttler in your order.

"Then Chris Woakes played fantastic today. It was a really good team effort and performance and puts us in a good place going into the next match."

Joe Root is England's best ever consistent player, he makes it look so easy whatever the format. The West Indies bowled poorly, you just sit on the back foot against this team, you don't have to do a great deal with your feet.

He has three World Cup centuries, that tells you the kind of player England have. He looks driven to make sure this team go all the way. They have an incredible chance to win that trophy.
