West Indies are a seriously dangerous side to play against; they can get you on your day. The one thing England will have prepared for on a batting front is their hit-the-pitch bowlers.
They have kind of gone back to the West Indies side of the 70s and 80s where they try and hit you on the head. Even Jason Holder and Oshane Thomas were bowling a lot of bouncers. England have to prepare for that.
With Southampton being a big, wide ground there is a legitimate tactic to bowl bouncers and in one-day cricket you cannot afford two dot balls an over.
West Indies drew the five-match ODI series against England 2-2 earlier this year.
In the final match Oshane Thomas took 5-21 as England struggled against the short ball and were bowled out for just 113.
I think we can expect more of the short stuff today.

With the amount of wet weather recently I doubt the pitch will have too much pace on it. The fuller length when there has been a lot of moisture is the length to find in English conditions. So maybe West Indies will surprise us and not go for the short ball and instead search for the fuller length.

A World Cup match in Southampton leads to a curious and unique mix of people.
Whilst the cricket is a big enough deal in these parts to necessitate a World Cup helpdesk in the lobby of my hotel, the port also attracts tourists who are about to embark on cruises to various locations.
So, as cricket fans wonder about the state of Andre Russell's knee or Mark Wood's ankle, Americans discuss places they've visited in Norway. Both groups lament the rain.

So, yes, it's been a miserable week, with four games abandoned, three of which without a single ball being bowled.
That was the case yesterday for India against New Zealand. At least they both got to keep their unbeaten records, eh?
I've done about 15 hours of live texting in the past few days just on interpreting the body language of umpires and telling you whether the covers are on or off.
I'm sick of it. So what's the weather like in Southampton?
IT IS NOT RAINING!
Let's try this again, shall we?
