3.8 an over, I can do the maths there. Not fast enough.

Pakistan are not drop and run merchants, they don't rotate the strike, they look for boundaries. If you can stop that you're on to a winner.

  3. 'Beautiful shot' - Babar hits fourpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

A highlight from a little earlier on as Ba-ba-ba, Babar Azam gets on top of the bounce and clumps away a lovely shot.

Work to do for Hereford's lower order if we're being honest.

Fakhar is like many Pakistan batsmen before and definitely in the future - if it's in his arc he tries to absolutely smash the cover off it.

  6. Pak 36-1published at 9.3 overs

Slightly hurried single for Fakhar Zaman but he scurries through safely enough. It has indeed hushed somewhat inside Old Trafford. The noise at 9am this morning was quite frankly ridiculous.

The innings is meandering along. Whenever there is a wicket there is a deafening roar. Undoubtedly more Indian fans in the ground.

  8. ouch!

Postpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 16 June 2019

Expected news from the middle - India bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar will not return to play any further part in this game.

  9. Pak 34-1published at 9 overs

    Target 337

India were 53-0 at this stage so Pakistan are behind the rate. Can they find a way to get back in the game? Boundaries are needed and fast.

It's a big miss if Kumar stays off injured but India do have back up and Pandya bowled some good deliveries against England in a Test series.

  12. Pak 33-1published at 8.3 overs

    That's how rumours start!

Let's gloss over that. Shot! Babar leans on a loosener from Hardik Pandya and absolutely thumps him through the covers for a boundary.

A potential maiden for Jasprit Bumrah is ruined by the final ball as Fakhar is able to pull a short ball away for four.

An absolute beauty from Jasprit Bumrah, cuts Fakhar Zaman in half. How has that missed?

Speaking of Father's Day, Kohli reminds me a little of an overprotective father. He's directing the fielder where to put some sawdust in the bowler's run up as Shankar chats with Rohit Sharma at the top of his mark. Yuzvendra Chahal deposits the sawdust and pats it down with Kohli inspecting over his shoulder and then, as Chahal walks away, Kohli gives the sawdust a firm tap with his foot. Just for good measure.

You'd think they'd need a stronger start than this, we're used to seeing teams on the 50 mark after seven or eight overs.

  19. Pak 25-1published at 7 overs

    Target 337

More sawdust called for, the bowlers aren't happy with the foot holes situation. And with good reason, they've already lost Bhuvneshwar Kumar to injury. It's the solution to most things in life - a man with a hammer whacks at the ground.

Shankar has become the third man to take a wicket with his first ball in a World Cup. The others were Ian Harvey - and Malachi Jones of Bermuda, when Dwayne Leverock leaped like a salmon to take a catch.
