If New Zealand can get to 270 they will fancy putting this England batting line-up under pressure. History tells you that's very difficult to chase at Lord's.

Now, without sounding too stupid, it is obviously an England-heavy crowd today. However, there’s a group of about eight India fans who keep trying to get an “India, India!” chant going, while I’ve spotted some Australia fans and, my personal favourite, one guy in a Scotland shirt.

Still grey and fresh at Lord’s, a day for an old-school cream cable-knit if you were playing club cricket. Those in shorts reliant on leg-waggling to keep the blood flowing. Those in hats looking smug.

On a day like this you need characters who are dependable and have flat emotions. Chris Woakes is exactly that.

  6. NZ 31-1published at 9 overs

Nerves, nerves, nerves! Henry Nicholls would have been gone there, scrambling a quick single and would have been toast had Jason Roy hit from mid off I reckon.

Kane Williamson still yet to score. He knows he's the anchor of this innings.

  7. NZ 30-1published at 8.3 overs

Woakes gets more swing again, leaving Henry Nicholls swiping at thin air.

I thought that had caught the outside edge. That was so close. What a beauty.

  10. NZ 30-1published at 8 overs

Genuine movement there! Jofra Archer slants one past the edge of Kane Williamson and it then swings after the bat, Jos Buttler taking the ball in front of the slips. Beauty!

He follows up with another genuine skyscraper of a bouncer. Some bowler this kid...

  11. NZ 30-1published at 7.3 overs

    Williamson 0, Nicholls 9

Jofra Archer finds some extra bounce off a good length to hit Henry Nicholls full in the guts. Eeeesssh I wouldn't fancy that.

Nicholls may be a bit winded but he manages a very fast run to take a single after nearly chopping on. And Kane Williamson has to duck out of the way of a vicious bouncer...

Rob Bull: That was a very poor review, probably influenced by the Nicholls lbw review earlier.

James: Nice one Guptill. Burning NZ’s review on the plumpest Lbw you will ever see. Hopefully costly.

Chris Howell: As much as the last review was brilliant, that was awful. Always going to be out after hitting the back leg.

Chris Woakes set up Martin Guptill nicely. He pushed him back in the crease and then when he came forward, his front foot was only just in front of the crease. Then the ball nipped back to beat the bat.

  15. NZ 29-1published at 7 overs

A beauty to end the over from Woakes, as Kane Williamson nearly thinks about snicking it through to the keeper.

Big over for England and for Chris Woakes.

What a service this is. You could have just Googled it but no, just ask us and we'll sort you out. Not got anything better to do today...

Kane Williamson gets a bit of flak from the crowd for taking his time taking guard and doing some gardening. Trott style.
