This feels a lot like the women’s World Cup. Same sort of weather, same sort of sense of nerves drifting around the ground...

Don't expect the pattern of this game to change for a while. New Zealand will be very happy with this, almost Test-style cricket for as long as possible. If they can push on to 270, they are well in this game.

Allen Cooper: Some of the comments on Williamson and his strike rate so far show ignorance and disrespect of the player. Always starts slow but has the class to catch up later once he’s in and the bowlers tire. Just look at the semi-final...

Dave Bookham: Don’t be fooled by Williamson’s slow start. They still need to get him before he accumulates runs. 250 or more may be a winning score

    Run rate 4.2

Trash talk to Liam Plunkett - I'll be sending your numbers to him. Good luck.

Mark Wood has often been expensive in this World Cup but that's a decent first over, getting the ball to move and at pace too. He hits 95mph there!

Slightly ruined by Kane Williamson gloving a leg-sided ball away for four off the final ball of the over...

George Gray: Plunkett is, I feel, a little out of place in this bowling attack not quite as good.

Mike: Struggling to see how Plunkett has an impact on this pitch. Stokes the better option.

Mike Bell: I wish this was David Willey's left arm bowling coming on as first change. Liam Plunkett just doesn't do it for me at this level.

Mark Wood's first two balls come with a side salad of massive away swing. His first one is called a wide in fact!

    Hooping it about.

These two have put on 25, of which Kane Williamson has scored four.

Shot! Henry Nicholls flicks a leg-sided ball to the fence.

Let's keep Williamson in.... Strike rate appalling. Maybe thinks he is so important to team he cannot get out or it is all over! Kane the Tortoise!

England's bowlers have made a good start but I think New Zealand will be the happier side. England will have hoped for at least two wickets by now.

Kane Williamson has shouldered New Zealand's burden and strode on regardless.

Three times he has been at the crease before the end of the first over. He has arrived in the second over, the third, fourth, sixth and ninth. Almost always he has prospered: the century against West Indies after both openers had gone for golden ducks; the endlessly patient 67 in the semi-final as wickets fell and runs dried up all around him.

The big debate this morning was did Kane Williamson make the right call at the toss? There were a few groans from the Black Caps fans around me when he said New Zealand would have a bat - their batting hasn’t exactly fired in this tournament.

Graeme Swann was floating around the box and said he was amazed New Zealand weren't having a bowl on what is a cold, grey day. But I reckon this is probably NZ’s best chance of winning - do what they did against India, get a score on the board and make England chase.
