  1. Somerset reach three figurespublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Somerset 107-4 v Kent

A glorious extra cover drive for four by Steven Davies off Darren Stevens brings up the Somerset 100, and he adds another boundary two balls later to advance to 13 not out. Tom Abell has 26 at the other end.

WICKET: Ballance b Fletcher 7published at 15:04 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 408 v Yorkshire 70-2

Luke Fletcher has been incredibly tidy, conceding just four runs from his first three overs, and now he strikes, taking Gary Ballance's off stump out of the ground. Ballance got a bit trapped on the crease, there.

In comes the England captain, Joe Root...

  3. Frustration for Coughlinpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 408 v Yorkshire 63-1

Oof, that's very close. Adam Lyth tries to leave a Paul Coughlin delivery, but doesn't get his bat out of the way quickly enough and almost drags the ball on to his stumps. Hands on heads everywhere you look in the field. Lyth follows up with a boundary, obviously.

And another! Twice in succession, Lyth guides the ball down towards third-man off the back foot. Three more follow from the over, which yields 11 runs for the visitors.

  4. Steady progress for Yorkshirepublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 408 v Yorkshire 52-1

Big appeal from Paul Coughlin, who strikes the pad of Adam Lyth. Nothing doing from the umpire.

Argh, salt in the wound. Coughlin drifts wide and full and Lyth latches on to it, dispatching it to the boundary to bring up Yorkshire's 50. Coughlin kicks the turf in frustration.

It's steady progress from the Yorkshire batsmen, with Lyth scoring 17 off 52 and Ballance on 4 off 23. Luke Fletcher has joined Paul Coughlin in the attack, replacing Jake Ball.

WICKET Alsop c Cook b Harmer 24published at 14:47 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Hampshire 481-7 v Essex

Sir Alastair Cook has a safe pair of hands at first slip as Tom Alsop tries to sweep but gets a top edge. Finally, Simon Harmer has a wicket to his name.

Out strides Keith Barker for his first Championship innings for Hampshire. Looks very odd not to see the bear and ragged staff emblem of Warwickshire on his chest after so many seasons at Edgbaston.

    • Incidentally, if you like stats, Hampshire's highest total in a Championship match against Essex is 539 at Southampton in 1996, when both Adrian Aymes and Winston Benjamin hit centuries.
  6. Brooks on the micpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Kit Harris
    BBC Sport commentator

Jack Brooks makes his Championship debut for Somerset today and is making a visit to the commentary box. Well might he look quizzical, though, as his new team have lost a clutch of wickets and he’ll need to pad up soon enough.

He tells BBC Somerset’s Anthony Gibson he’s looking forward to bowling at Matt Renshaw, who he dismissed twice at Taunton last year. Not before he’d made 112 in the first innings, mind you.

So what is the difference between his new Somerset and former Yorkshire team-mates? “They’re a lot quieter and a lot less temperamental,” he says.

WICKET Byrom c Stevens b Milnes 6published at 14:37 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Somerset 80-4 v Kent

    Matt MilnesImage source, Getty Images

Eddie Byrom flashes hard at an angled delivery from Matt Milnes and veteran Darren Stevens takes a superb catch in the gully.

In truth, that was a needless stroke at such an early stage of his innings and Somerset are now in dire need of a significant partnership.

Steven davies is next to the crease, with Tom Abell on 12 at the other end.

  8. Notts search for second Yorkshire wicketpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 408 v Yorkshire 48-1

Stuart Broad has found his groove, here. Good rhythm and good speed. He drops to his knees in frustration as Gary Ballance shoulders arms to a ball that misses the off-stump by a whisker. Probably a bit too close to call that a good leave...

Ballance responds well, driving Broad down the ground for four before properly leaving the last two balls of the over.

Broad has now been taken out of the attack, with Paul Coughlin replacing him. Perhaps Broad is being saved for the next man in, whoever that is...

  9. Hampshire pair acceleratepublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Hampshire 467-6 v Essex

And there's a century for Simon Harmer - but not the sort the Essex spinner will enjoy.

He's now gone for over 100 after Tom Alsop comes down the track to loft him away over long-on for six, and Gareth Berg hits three boundaries in the space of four deliveries in the the next over, bowled by Sam Cook, as the Essex seamer joins Harmer in the unwanted three-figures club.

  10. Division Two round-uppublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

Sussex have begun their second innings at Hove after finally cleaning up Leicestershire for 252. The final wicket went to Ollie Robinson, whose dismissal of Chris Wright gave him figures of 4-46.

Northamptonshire's new-ball bowlers are keeping it tight against Middlesex, who are 6-0 after six overs in reply to the home side's 445 all out. Sam Robson and Nick Gubbins are the Middlesex openers.

Jack Burnham has advanced to 31 not out for Durham, who are 143-6 in reply to Derbyshire's 197 all out, a deficit of 54.

WICKET Hildreth c Crawley b Claydon 27published at 14:26 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Somerset 63-3 v Kent

James Hildreth is gone. He pushes forward to ball from Mitch Claydon and it's a straighforward catch at second slip for Zak Crawley. Somerset now looking to two of their younger players, Tom Abell and Eddie Byrom, to rebuild on a seamer-friendly track.

  12. Ballance the new manpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 408 v Yorkshire 43-1

That's gorgeous from Adam Lyth, who eases a Jake Ball delivery through the covers for four. He moves on to 13 from 31 deliveries.

Gary Ballance is the new man in following the end of Harry Brook's eye-catching innings, which included six boundaries.

Big appeal from Broad! He strikes Ballance on the pad, but that might have been drifting down leg. Broad turned around to appeal this time, so he obviously wasn't that confident...

    Maiden over.

  13. wicket

WICKET Dawson c sub b Quinn 64published at 14:21 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Hampshire 447-6 v Essex

Matt Quinn collects his third wicket of the innings as Liam Dawson edges to substitute keeper Will Buttleman, who is out there because of Adam Wheater's thumb injury. In truth, that wasn't a great stroke and the ball did just enough off the seam to take the edge as he failed to fully commit to a cover drive.

Gareth Berg comes out to join Tom Alsop in the middle.

  14. Two tips for Englandpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

England's first Test of the summer will be against Ireland - so here's a former Ireland player's view of who might be pushing for a call-up...

  15. Slick of luck for Hildrethpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Somerset 59-2 v Kent

Almost a third wicket for Kent as an edge by James Hildreth falls just short of second slip and runs away for four, with Darren Stevens the unlucky bowler.

That apart, Hildreth - the man with 45 first-class hundreds but not even one England cap - has been settling in well in his 250th first-class game, with a couple of well-timed back foot boundaries off Stevens already.

  16. wicket

WICKET: Brook lbw b Broad 30published at 14:14 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 408 v Yorkshire 39-1

Stuart Broad was seeming a bit out-of-sorts, but he's halted Yorkshire's progress here, trapping the previously free-scoring Harry Brook plumb LBW.

Broad doesn't even bother looking around to see the umpire raise the finger.

  17. wicket

WICKET Azhar c Dickson b Milnes 24published at 14:08 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Somerset 49-2 v Kent

Kent thought they had Azhar Ali a few minutes earlier, but there's no doubt about it this time as Matt Milnes finds the edge and Sean Dickson does the necessary at first slip. That is former Nottinghamshire paceman Milnes' first Championship wicket in a Kent shirt, so it's a big moment for him.

  18. Solid start from Yorkshirepublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 408 v Yorkshire 28-0

Yorkshire have started well, with Adam Lyth on 9 and Harry Brook progressing to 19 after seven overs.

There's plenty of wicket-taking potential in this Nottinghamshire attack, though, and Jake Ball keeps Adam Lyth honest with an absolute ripper that somehow evades the opener's outside edge. Good work behind the wicket by Tom Moores, as well, as that one really took off.

  19. Alsop at the crease for Hantspublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Hampshire 439-5 v Essex

Following Sam Northeast's dismissal to the final ball before lunch, Tom Alsop is the new Hampshire batsman - but it's Liam Dawson who picks up the tempo after the interval with an early boundary off Jamie Porter. Hampshire will have their sights on 500+ here.

  20. Back underway at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 408 v Yorkshire 16-0

It's Stuart Broad first up for Nottinghamshire after lunch, and Adam Lyth is off the mark, driving an over-pitched delivery gloriously through the covers for four. Broad gently applauds his former England colleague as he trundles back to his mark.

And again! No applause from Broad this time...

A good ball to finish, but it's well left by Lyth outside of off-stump.
