  1. Benign pitch blunts Essexpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Hampshire 382-4 v Essex

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Sam Northeast and Liam Dawson have completed their century partnership to further strengthen Hampshire's position and Northeast, who has a good record against Essex, now has his highest score for Hampshire.

Jamie Porter achieved some movement with the new ball but the pair have generally looked entirely comfortable on a benign pitch.

Hampshire should make 500 and insure themselves against defeat. Essex, without the injured Adam Wheater, will be grateful for the presence of Sir Alastair Cook when their turn comes to bat. This has the makings of a high-scoring draw.

  2. wicket

    WICKET: Fletcher c Kohler-Cadmore b Patterson 3published at 12:26 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 375-9 v Yorkshire

Nottinghamshire lose their fourth wicket of the morning.

Luke Fletcher, who had started to look a bit more comfortable with Duanne Olivier out of the attack, looks to drive expansively and edges to Tom Kohler-Cadmore at slip. Decent catch, that.

Jake Ball is the last man in as Yorkshire look to wrap up the innings before lunch.

Sam Northeast hoped his move to Hampshire last year might help boost his chances of playing international cricket. Things didn't quite work out the way he'd planned, but he has started this summer in the best way possible - with a big century. OK, he's not an opener, but clearly one fan things he has the kind of ability the selectors should be investigating.

  4. Olivier out of the attackpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 371-8 v Yorkshire

    Duanne OlivierImage source, Getty Images

Matthew Waite replaces Duanne Olivier in the Yorkshire attack, and begins with a tidy maiden.

If that's the last we see of Olivier in this innings- and Yorkshire will hope they won't need him again- the South African will finish with figures of 5-96, having been 2-74 overnight.

A performance to excite Yorkshire fans.

  5. Century stand by Hants pairpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Hampshire 371-4 v Essex

Sam Northeast and Liam Dawson have now posted a hundred partnership as Hampshire continue to tighten their grip on the game at the Ageas Bowl.

Jamie Porter's burst with the new ball brought him no reward and Essex have now called up Matt Quinn to share the bowling duties with Sam Cook.

Northeast is now 137 not out, with Dawson on 34 after an anxious moment a little earlier on (see below).

Somerset v Kent - start delayed

Looks like we'll have some cricket at Taunton this afternoon.

Following a second inspection, the umpires have ordered the players to take lunch at 12:30, with a view to starting play 40 minutes later.

  7. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

Leicestershire's Lewis Hill has just reached a 102-ball 50 with a single off Mir Hamza at Hove, where the visitors are 178-6 and now out in front against Sussex.

Middlesex are still struggling to polish off the Northants tail at Wantage Road, where the home side are now 361-7, with Luke Procter 33 not out.

Derbyshire's Ravi Rampaul has made a breakthrough against Durham, removing Matt Salisbury for 12. Jack Burnham is now at the crease, his first Championship innings since a one-year drugs ban was imposed in 2017, and the visitors are 83-4

  8. Yorkshire's morning so farpublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 368/8 v Yorkshire

It's been pretty menacing stuff from Duanne Olivier this morning, with Luke Fletcher's torso the latest to take a bit a of a battering.

Paul Coughlin is looking comfortable enough, however, dispatching a straight ball from Olivier to the midwicket boundary to move to 24 not out. 110 overs have elapsed, which means bonus points can no longer be scored in this innings. Nottinghamshire finish with four, Yorkshire with two.

Oh, close-ish...Steve Patterson, into the attack for Ben Coad, gets through Coughlin's defences, but the ball dribbles past the stumps.

  9. Hants earn fourth batting pointpublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Hampshire 351-4 v Essex

    Will ButtlemanImage source, Rex Features

A big today for 18-year-old Will Buttleman, who is keeping wicket for Essex because of Adam Wheater's thumb injury (see 10:41 entry).

No joy for Essex, though, with Liam Dawson picking up two runs off Sam Cook to advance to 26 and secure a fourth batting point for Hampshire - and they have 22 overs left to complete a full set.

  10. Olivier turns the tablespublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 362-8 v Yorkshire

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Duanne Olivier has turned the tables on Nottinghamshire on the second morning of their match at Trent Bridge.

The South African quick has taken all three wickets to fall this morning. Joe Clarke lost his middle stump, Tom Moores drove to extra cover for 27 and then Stuart Broad was pinned lbw deep in his crease for a second-ball duck.

    Olivier has 5-91.

  11. Wicket: Broad lbw b Olivier 0published at 11:44 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 358/8 v Yorkshire

England's Stuart Broad is the new man, and Duanne Olivier greets him with a nasty short ball first up.

And now he's got him! Super bowling from Olivier, who softened Broad up before swinging a yorker back into the England man and trapping him LBW.

That's five wickets on debut for Yorkshire's Kolpak signing. He struggled early on yesterday, but he's found his rhythm now.

  12. Hameed marathon endedpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

One of the best bits of cricket news yesterday was Haseeb Hameed's return to form with a double century for Lancashire for Loughborough MCCU. His innings is over now, though, caught in the slips for 218. Lancashire are 417-6.

  13. wicket

WICKET: Moores c Ballance b Olivier 27published at 11:40 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 358-7 v Yorkshire

Was Tom Moores trying to put his foot on the accelerator? He'd batted patiently, but having hit two unconvincing fours off the bowling of Duanne Olivier, Moores picks out Gary Ballance with an uncontrolled drive.

He'll feel he has left some runs out in the middle.

  14. False stroke from Northeastpublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Hampshire 336-4 v Essex

A bit of good fortune for Sam Northeast, who reaches for a wide delivery from Jamie Porter and slices an uppish thick edge through the gully area for four.

Porter digs the next one in short and Northeast flips it over the slip cordon for another boundary. Was that intentional? We'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Northeast now on 118 - and Essex badly need to get rid of him.

  15. Moores holding firmpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 350-6 v Yorkshire

Yorkshire will feel another wicket will open the floodgates, here, but Tom Moores has picked up where he left off yesterday, batting patiently and putting away the bad balls.

The left-hander rocks on to his back foot and pulls to the boundary. 19 off 94 balls for the wicketkeeper batsman, now.

Paul Coughlin is settling in nicely at the other end, finding the boundary with a lovely cover drive off Duanne Olivier.

350 up for Notts, who score their fourth batting bonus point.

  16. new ball

Essex hope for new-ball successpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Hampshire 327-4 v Essex

The new ball is available at the Ageas Bowl and Essex call up Jamie Porter, who didn't have one of his best days on Friday when his one Hampshire wicket cost him 70 runs.

Sam Northeast has moved on to 110 not out, with partner Liam Dawson 18 not out, and their partnership is currently worth 64.

  17. ouch!

Welcome to the crease, Paul...published at 11:25 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 338-6 v Yorkshire

New-batsman Paul Coughlin is greeted by Ben Coad in the most unfriendly fashion imaginable. The ball hits the Nottinghamshire all-rounder in the last place he'd have wanted it to. Nasty.

Coughlin took a little while to recover, but is now back on his feet. Now Coad rattles him on the glove! That looked painful too.

Good response from the 26-year-old, though, as he clips the final ball of the over off his pads for four.

  18. for Tim Murtaghpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Northants 317-7 v Middlesex

All over for Jason Holder in his first innings for Northamptonshire. He pushes hesitantly forward to a good length delivery and a thin edge provides a simple catch for wicketkeeper John Simpson.

Holder made 40 and that is the 31st time that Ireland's Tim Murtagh has taken five or more wickets in a first-class innings.

  19. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

The first wicket of the day in Division Two has fallen at Hove, where Sussex's Ollie Robinson trapped Harry Dearden lbw for 40. Lewis Hill is still there on 41-1, with Leicestershire 152-6, just 21 in arrears.

Northants have made a steady start against Middlesex, adding seven runs so far to reach 317-6, with West Indies captain Jason Holder now 40 not out.

No joy yet for Derbyshire against Durham, with Ravi Rampaul conceding a boundary to Alex Lees, who has 20 out of the visitors' score of 63-3.

  20. wicket

WICKET: Clarke b Olivier 112published at 11:12 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Notts 329-6 v Yorkshire

    Exactly what Yorkshire needed!

Duanne Olivier, who had looked threatening in his first over, jags one back in and takes out Joe Clarke's middle stump. A fine delivery, which may have kept a little low.

Clarke only managed to add three to his overnight score, but it was a fine innings nonetheless.

    Paul Coughlin the new man.
