  1. Further delay at Northamptonpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Northamptonshire 445 v Middlesex 271 & 109-2

The umpires consult their meters and decide it's murky enough to go off again at Wantage Road. Dawid Malan is 55 not out and Sam Robson has 40 - with Middlesex now only 65 short of avoiding an innings defeat.

  2. wicket

    Somerset 171 & 90-5 v Kent 209

Tom Abell tries to force the ball away square but that's a loose shot and keeper Ollie Robinson takes his third catch of the innings. Abell and Steven Davies put on 58, but that wicket will put renewed vigour into Kent's attack for the remaining overs of play. Somerset lead by only 53.

  3. Bopara leads way in 50 standpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Hampshire 525-8 dec v Essex 164 & 82-3

Ravi Bopara and Tom Westley have posted a half-century partnership at the Ageas Bowl. Good news for Essex, but it's going to take a lot more than that for them to escape without a season-opening defeat.

Bopara drives for four from an over-pitched delivery by spinner Liam Dawson to advance to 40 not out. He really does look in very good touch.

  4. 50 runs

for Joe Clarkepublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Notts 408 & 213-3 v Yorkshire 291

A great way to reach 50. Joe Clarke walks across his stumps and whips Yorkshire skipper Steve Patterson to the deep square leg boundary for four. It's come from 82 balls with nine boundaries.

Not a bad way to back up your century from the first innings.

It's his Championship debut for Notts by the way.

  5. 50 runs

for Dawid Malanpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Northamptonshire 445 v Middlesex 271 & 100-2

    Alex Winter
    BBC Radio Northampton sport

The rain has relented for the time being at Wantage Road, but it's still very grey and it would be odds against getting all the remaining overs in today - and Middlesex will welcome any further time taken out of the game.

The visitors have developed a solid partnership for the third wicket. Dawid Malan has gone to a 60-ball fifty to lead his side's progress. There's plenty more to do - they would need to bat until tea tomorrow to make the game safe, but a good start here and runs up the order that they didn't have first time around.

Mercifully for your BBC radio team, the chilly breeze that made it rather uncomfortable yesterday has eased today and though the mercury is only a degree or two higher, it feels significantly warmer. Bobble hats in the bags.

  6. Somerset pair hold up Kentpublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Somerset 171 & 83-4 v Kent 209

Harry Podmore gives Steven Davies too much width and the left-hander unerringly finds the cover boundary twice in the space of three balls. Two runs later in the over takes him to 33 not out and brings up a half-century partnership with Tom Abell. Somerset's lead is 45.

For the third time in the match, Yorkshire's Duanne Olivier has taken a wicket with the first ball of a new spell. It was probably a bit too short, but it invited the pull from Chris Nash and he plonked it straight down the throat of Joe Root at square leg. An excellent 75 from Nash, but he'd looked under no pressure.

Only moments earlier, Nash and Joe Clarke had reached their 100 partnership.

  8. Test of belief for Durhampublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Derbyshire 197 & 334 v Durham 171

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle commentator

There is plenty of time left in the game with 17 overs tonight and all of tomorrow if the weather holds.

But with Durham’s batting line-up questionable in recent times, the idea they will chase down 361 seems unlikely. It would be their second highest run-chase if they can pull it off.

The wicket has been flat today and we’ve not seen anything to really worry the batsmen, but it is all about confidence now and whether Durham can cope with the Derbyshire attack - and whether they have the stomach for the fight.

  9. Yorkshire starving Notts of runspublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Notts 408 & 189-2 v Yorkshire 291

Nottinghamshire have been pretty free scoring today, going at at least four runs an over for almost the entire second innings - not so for the last little while.

Some more defensive field settings from Yorkshire captain Steve Patterson and some excellent fielding has helped restrict Notts to just 30 runs in the last 13 overs.

This must have an impact on the home side's declaration plans. Their lead is now 306 runs.

  11. Bopara turns on stylepublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Hampshire 525-8 dec v Essex 164 & 41-3

Nicely played Ravi Bopara, who holds the pose after a textbook cover drive for four off Kyle Abbott. He deflects the next with soft hands, angling it down past the slips for another boundary and looks in decent nick, which is more than can be said for some of his teammates. Essex still need another 320 to avoid an innings defeat.

  12. Tough target for Durhampublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Derbyshire 197 & 334 v Durham 171

Last man Ravi Rampaul hits 24 from 20 balls before he is caught off Matt Salisbury (3-65) as Derbyshire set Durham a target of 361.

Tom Lace (61) and Harvey Hosein (62) were the main contributors to the home side's second innings total, while Matt Critchley contributed 51 to a stand of 63 with Hosein.

It's a very tall order for a Durham side without skipper Cameron Bancroft, whose arrival in the UK was delayed by commitments in Australia.

  13. Middlesex resume survival fightpublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Northamptonshire 445 v Middlesex 271 & 65-2

Play has now resumed at Wantage Road, with the sepulchral sky from earlier replaced by more cheerful conditions overhead.

Sam Robson (27) and Dawid Malan (25) have posted a 50 partnership for the third wicket.

Middlesex need another 109 to avoid an innings defeat.

  14. Somerset duo dig inpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Somerset 171 & 68-4 v Kent 209

Somerset have avoided any further damage since tea with Tom Abell and Steven Davies, both 21 not out, building a handy partnership. The lead is only 30, though, and Darren Stevens and Mitch Claydon are currently operating in tandem for Kent.

  15. wicket

WICKET Lawrence lbw Abbott 6published at 16:36 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Hampshire 525-8 dec v Essex 164 & 27-3

Dan Lawrence moves across his stumps, the ball cuts back and Kyle Abbott has his second wicket. Even allowing for Lawrence's initial movement, that looked like it might just have been going down leg, but the umpire has no doubts and sends him on his way. the way things are going, Essex will do well to take this game into a final day.

  16. How long do Notts bat on for?published at 16:35 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Notts 408 & 174-2 v Yorkshire 291

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

I'd say Notts will bat on for a while yet as this lead of 291 isn't good enough to declare on. I would imagine the obvious target is being 400 runs ahead. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they look to continue ticking along at the four runs an over they have been doing until the close, and then have a look again in the morning.

  17. wicket

WICKET Cook c sub b Abbott 8published at 16:26 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Hampshire 525-8 dec v Essex 164 & 19-2

Alastair Cook may have a knighthood these days, but to Kyle Abbott he's just another potential victim - and the South African paceman removes the former England captain for the second time today.

This time it's a fine delivery which just does enough to find the edge and substitute wicketkeeper Lewis McManus has an easy task to complete the dismissal.

In theory, there are 45 overs left in the day's play - and it's going to be a very tough session for Essex.

  18. rain stops play

Resumption delayed at Hovepublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Sussex 173 & 308 v Leicestershire 252 & 87-1

The covers may be coming off at Northampton (see 16:20 entry), but they are very much on at Hove, where the rain has set in during the tea interval. BBC Radio Leicester's Richard Rae reports that the entire square is being covered.

Leicestershire need another 131 for victory, with nine wickets remaining.

  19. Possible re-start at Northamptonpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Northamptonshire 445 v Middlesex 271 & 45-2

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London commentator

Bad light prolonged the early tea that was ushered in by showers at Wantage Road but the restart appears in sight with the hosts chomping at the bit.

The encouraging efforts of the Middlesex tail in the morning session came quickly to an end after lunch as James Harris was left stranded on an excellent 61.

With the follow-on enforced, Northants claimed two quick wickets - reward for their persistence and consistency through the game - to set the tone for the remainder of the match.

Middlesex need to build top order partnerships as their lower order did this morning. They'll probably need a bit of help from the weather as well with 34 overs still to be bowled on the third day and a fair deficit still to knock off.

  20. As you were Nottspublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Notts 408 & 164-2 v Yorkshire 291

Back under way at Trent Bridge, and Yorkshire captain Steven Patterson sends down a solid opening over other than one ball that strayed onto the legs of Joe Clarke.

He punished that one loose delivery, clipping it to the midwicket boundary.

Clarke and Chris Nash are building a very strong partnership here.
